Guest Raslin Guests Posted 06/11/03 01:29 AM Share Posted 06/11/03 01:29 AM I have a XR6 BA non turbo ute. Just put the car in for a service a week ago. Had the shudder and told Ford about it. I mainly do Hway driving and the shudder comes about when I am breaking from about 80kms and heading into sweeping corners. My ute has done just under 28,000kms. Ford machine the front discs and the problem has gone away. Will have to put the car in for a wheel balance and rotation to hopefully remove the slight shaking in the steering wheel. Guest OXR-747 Guests Posted 06/11/03 01:41 AM Share Posted 06/11/03 01:41 AM I got the "Permanent Fix" done yesterday, bit of a concern though when I dropped her off I said I'm here for the permanent fix, the service bloke laughed and said nothings permanent :(Well if this doesn't work, what next? As I understand even people upgrading to DBA etc are still getting brake shudder. If it wasn't for the brakes it would be a perfect car, I couldn't fault anything else about it!!! Guest falchoon58 Guests Posted 07/11/03 10:13 AM Share Posted 07/11/03 10:13 AM G'day, here are a few points to help clarify some concerns. *For cost on the premium package, see you your local Ford Dealer Parts or maybe do a deal with the dealer for a better price. *Pads are the same Textar compound used on all Premiun Brake equiped Falc's. Basically Factory! *Pemium brakes DO NOT have a shudder issue: that's known. Some of the other combinations being suggested are an experiment at best! Mind you the DBA rotor is a dead-ringer for the premiun rotor!, espesially around the hub area. *Premium's doesn't affect insurance in any way. Its a factory set-up. Just make sure you tell the "vultures" at the insurance company. *The steering vibration some are feeling IS the brake shuuder. You wont feel that much through the brake pedal, the discs are acting on the calipers, which is then pushing the steering knuckle around leaving the steering with a shimmy/vibration. You notice it more on XR or on 17"+ wheels because of the stiffer side wall of the tyre compared to the lower spec cars (softer & larger sidewall) which is why a lot of the dealers tell you at first that its "only XR's" with the problem.(company car drivers dont winge about those sort of things.) *Even my wife noticed that after the premiums were fitted, and in her words " the car is so much smoother than before in the steering and braking!" Guest Mr Walker Guests Posted 10/11/03 02:09 AM Share Posted 10/11/03 02:09 AM *Pemium brakes DO NOT have a shudder issue: that's known. Is that a fact Falchoon? I wasn't sure if that was the case. If it is true then there shouldn't be any concerns with the hub face as was mentioned previously.Premiums next time for me.
