Machined by the dealer at 8000km, now with 15170km on the clock the shudder is back worse than ever...

DBA slotted front rotors go on the car next Saturday.

This sounds very similar to our car.

We had the shudder at around 7500km (I think) then got the disks machined, was fine. Now at 16,000km its back and it’s shocking. Even at speeds of around 60km/h it shudders like hell.

For the record the car gets driven about 70/30 city driving to highway driving and the car is a manual.

Its booked in at Ford next week, will be interesting to see what they do. As we have said we don't want them machined...

very slight shuddering on an auto done 12,000 40% highway, 60% city. went with dad for a spin yesterday and it is slightly noticable if you feel for it (so slight that I guess before me and dad just assumed it was bempiness in the road), but that was only during moderate braking from 60, so probably will be more noticable in hard braking or highway trips.

Why wouldn't you want them machined? Don't you want the problem fixed? The small skim that is removed will be virtually immesureable. If you put on another set of standard non-heat-treated discs (the type Ford use) you will have a good chance of having the problem back. I'd just let them do a skim and see how it goes for a while - it worked on my T3 and it seems to be working for most of the BAs.

I've had my second set of discs machined once (the discs were replaced first time they warped) and in the workshop manager's own words, the warping will be back every 3-5000 klms. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, it's booked in again next week, right on the money for klms before it again became a problem. I guess what I am trying to say is that machining is definitely not the answer. The sooner they come up woth a permanent fix I.e a new batch of properly treated rotors, the happier I'll be.

Excuse my ignorance as I am still waiting for my car is it a situation where the discs are warping or wearing out the pads evenly due to imperfections of the steel on the disc rotor if the disc is warrping machining aint gonna do to much but if there is a layer of sand on the disc which wears out one part of the pad quicker than maching prolly be the only option untill they re run the disc's with a newer metel or lower tolerence

IMTRBO,

From where I sit (I have not had any problems yet! - 7200km) I believe the discs are warping / develop a run out thus causing them to pulsate. If they are machined the highs on the disk are removed. But this of course reduces their life as they are then thiner than when they were new. So after 60,000km and the dealer advises you that they are now below the min width they need to be replaced... Where will we stand re warranty as they "cut" them down early in their life...??

Time will tell..

Good point bdennis where will we stand when the pads need to be replaced and we are told we need new disc coz ford a machined them to a pringles chip ... Maybee would not hurt to get something in writting before you allow them to machine the discs....Does this resolve the problem any one do they replace the pads as well when they machine the disc's ??????? Big issue I think I will be going to a dba version

I'v had my xr6t for 6 months and just traded it in for another. (Change of colour. Just love the employee discount) :D I first got my shudder when I drove to the Great Ocean Road. And again about 3 months later. From what I have been told by different people at Ford it is an air flow problem. There is not enough cold air getting to the disks and causing them to warp. Ford are designing vents to allow air to flow to the disks. There are mixed opinions about if there will be a recall.

Hmm, I think I'll go the DBA's as soon as I feel some shudder...

No point in getting machined, as said above I am worried about the disc getting too thin later in the warranty period..

Well mine's the N/A with SSS and I do mostly highway driving with a little 'stop-start' peak hour fun thrown in each afternoon.

11,600ish on the odometer now and well it's the 2nd time that the 'shudder' problem has struck. It's getting really bad as I work during the day, I drive 100k's a day to work and back and Bryan Byrt can only do it during the day.

Won't be done until next Wednesday as they can only perform the machining (on car) during the day. By that time, machining may not be enough. I'm really noticing the shudder ATM.
