As this is your specaility as doing this all the time can you enlighten me on this.

Prior to fitting the new rotors I removed the pads to bascically remove all glazing and noticed on the pad surfuce what looked like really little round balls of brake pad fibre accumulated on the pad surfuce,What is happening here in this instance?.

Do you think that it is possible that the new rotors are removing these small metal fibre buildups with the slots and holes helping to eliminate this problem.Could this build up of pad material be a combining downfall with poor quality rotor material causeing this most annoying problem for many people.

I really do think the replacement of the rotors has made the brakes feel 100% better in feel and stopping and seem to be much more sensitive as well,Is this a combination of maybe alot less heat and better bite for the surfuce of the pad?.

1. I would need to see this under a microscope to know for sure. It sounds like the pads may have been overheating and drawing resin to the surface which has accumulated around the fibre used in the pads. Another possibility is that it is carbon in the pad that has been polished up from the glazing. The carbon granules can look like small balls 1 to 2 mm in diameter.

2. Slotted or drilled and slotted rotors definitely clean the braking surface which reduces build up on the pads.

This is why your new brakes feel better and more responsive.

This buildup may be adding to the problem for sure.

do you think if the disks,clipars and pads are changed,

would this fix the problem.

if so we know to use dba disks, but what calipars and pads do we use.

I've already done a full caliper, pad, rotor change with excellent results but with 330mm rotors and Brembos...$$$

I'm trying to work out an option that doesn't cost a fortune for the standard rotors.

dbasteve fitted the discs to the XY,and was intrested to see you have gone the one piece way.I reckon if you did the same for the BA standard brake set up problemsolvit.

Anyway could please tell me what torque setting you would use for the wheel nuts,the wheels are 15" Globe Bathurst mags.

Would this be the same for the turbo ?

All Falcons = 115 to 140 Nm

Ideally they will all be the same setting in this range. EG all 120Nm.

Funny story; Our research guy rang around last year to dealers asking what settings they used. A few replied FT on the rattle gun. Not the answer we were looking for! :ph34r:

Sorry I can't post what FT means on here but you'll work it out... :hiwelcome:

P.S The old hub type rotors had their problems too. Much better wheel bearings though.

I have just been notified that Ford now has found a solution to the brake problem. They believe that the problems have been caused by the pad retaining springs not retracting the pads from the rotor properly which then allows the pad to drag on the rotor causing excessive heat buildup and the subsequent warping of the disc. The new parts should be in next week and will be fitted. Here's hoping that Ford have found the problem. Time will tell !!!

That seems strange, because the warped discs don't seem to happen just by driving around. Maybe they are talking about the handbrake dragging?

I had my discs replaced again. This time I was told that they replaced the whole hub, not just the disc?? I thought the Disc and Hub were one unit. They couldn't be talking about the axle assembly could they?

Anyway, the shudder is gone again, and this time I'll be heating them up ASAP and see if I get shudder or fade, and also make sure it goes away once they cool down!

So I assume these will be fitted to ALL BAs not just those who have had problems??

Also if they do fit them to my car (no sudder yet, 6000KMS) it there a chance that my rotors are already 'partially' warped as a result of 6000kms without the fix??

Whould we be insisting that the rotors are changed at the same time as the fix is applied?

OR alternativly perhaps Ford wont replace the parts on all cars - only those with the problem, that was if you get the problem you get the new springs and rotors at the same time?????

Cant wait any longer booked my car in next week to have a pair of DBA rotors fitted, DBA Steve thanks for recommending Jim @JAY-ESS Auto repairs he seems to know his stuff.

I'll post some pics next week.
