dbasteve,I am getting a pair crossdrilled and slotted discs for my XY, performax pads for the street, any tricks to bed these discs in ? the amount of stuff (stuff!) you hear leaves one confused. Any tips would be great mate.

Fitted new front rotors on the weekend they where dba gold series which are crossdrilled and slotted what a differance it has made to the braking. On our cruise on sunday they got used hard and often no signs of any problems odl disc had warpped twice. retail price I think is around $200 each.

That sounds like a good option! Can you tell me if you replaced the pads also. I'm pretty sure it's only the discs, but is there a chance the pads can be causing the problems too?? I'm seriously looking at doing something with mine too!

Cross drilled rotors are the most sensitive discs to bed in but the work like a treat if done properly. Heavy metal pads like performax generate more heat than standard pads which you need to keep in mind.

For this combo the easiest solution is to drive sensibly for about 200 kms avoiding any hard braking if possible. This will heat cycle the rotors a number of times and also allow the pads to bed in to give full contact across the braking surface.

When bedding in this manner there is always the risk of green fade because the pads haven't been through that initial fade and resin burn off as with normal pad bedding.

After this 200 km run then do a standard bedding in process;

* For a minimum of 15 km use brakes gently at first from initially low speeds ( 60 km/h ) Progressively raise speed ( 80 to 100 km/h ) but still using gentle braking applications. This raises the rotor temperature gradually.

* For the final 2 or 3 applications brakes can be used quite hard but not enough to engage ABS or wheel lock up.

* Drive for a minimum of 15 km at low speed with minimum braking to allow the rotors to cool.

This is the long version that I prefer because it eliminates most of the potential hassles with braking in the future. The wham! bam! thankyou mam! aproach is a bit of a hit and miss especially with drilled rotors.

I hope this is what you were looking for!

Email me if you need clarification.

Brake pad options are due to be released by Bendix and Ferodo in August. There arn't any choices until then.

I have both on order...

Got the crossed drilled and slotted rotors 2000km ago and wish I did it months ago.Used the original pads and have had no issues with pulsating pedals or fade. The brake pedal now even feels alot more sensitive to braking and would recommend it to everybody.Should of been like this in the first place.

Hey ASNU,

how much did it cost you for the slotted brakes?

I have had break fade already  with only 1,800kms. No break shudder yet.

Doesn't bother me!

Maybe it will keep the resellers honest!

I'd also be keen to know your price...

Best I've found for slotted is about $115 per rotor.
