Only seems to happen at relatively low speeds and/or light braking - if I brake late (and therefore harder), it stops nice and smooth. Have just passed 7,000kms - seems to be a common starting point. Standard brakes.

Has anyone had Ford admit to them that its a disc problem ? Or pad issue ? Or hub /bearing problem ?I spoke to an owner today who has travelled 8000km in 5.5 mths and has just had his discs machined for the 3rd time. Ford told him its a disc problem. Anyone else had this confirmed or used a different (DBA) disc for 10 000km or so and have any feedback on the discs ?When the discs reach minimum thickness of 26mm are Ford replacing the discs and if so with DBA or their own discs ? Are there problems after this replacement ?Ford also told him that DBA are working on a new design disc to be released in approx 6 mths to cure the problem. Being developed and tested now he was told. DBASteve are you aware of this information ?Is there anyone from Ford here who might be able to assist me with some answers either here or "offlist"?If its a hub/bearing issue its out of my hands but if its actually brake related maybe we can figure this out.I've also heard of issues with the Premium brakes. Anyone have anything to add on this one ?Just as well there are better brake kits (AP & Brembo) in development hey ?

There has been testing done with our rotors but the root cause has not been adequately identified therefore focus is on other related components at the moment. Rotor DTV is the end result. Disc remachining is just buying time until the issue is solved.

Guest ratboy_ledg Guests Posted 09/07/03 11:35 AM Share Posted 09/07/03 11:35 AM Ok dattoman I work at a ford dealership in sydney I will tell you what I know.in the warranty room I see hubs bearings & discs some times just a machining of the disc (on car disc machine that is.)but if it comes back a second time the we do all the measurements and usually find excessive runout on the dics and hub as for the hub bearing I dont know why or what the story is with that but I will tell you from what I have noticed it happens (or could happen) to anyone without a set of brembo brakes.! :o As for when they replace the disc's I understand they are made by dba anyway.(Im tired & have work tomorrow so seeya. It seemed to me that they are aware of the problem so they promptly machined the disc's - normal there would be questions like at what speed does the shudder accure at / or is it under hard braking or normal braking, but no questions at all. My main concern was QC as the XR6T was delivered with a crease on the bonet, paint chips, rear door that doesn't close properly, doors not lined up evenly and rear parcel self not inserted correctly. talk about pre - delivery $900 what for.My driving is mainly city with little highway useother than that - what an awesome machine

Posted 10/07/03 07:36 PM Share Posted 10/07/03 07:36 PM 19000 km back for the second time looking at getting some slotted and cross drilled disc. I have had the disc machine once and it is needed again I have been told by a disc machining guy that once they have been machined once it will still come back as the surface may be correct but disc is still warped internally and this just gets worse as heat gets into the disc. A few dealers have used our rotors on problem cars but the Genuine rotors are not ours.
