WhiteTee,

I checked with the dealer - the replacement shims were installed at 15,000km. I checked the pads myself and found that they were very tight in the calipers. I removed them and smeared the metal to shim contact with the antiseize copperkote. That has made the brakes smoother for the time being, and no hint of shudder, however I don't think it will be a lasting fix. You obviously have to only use a small amount of copperkote as you don't want to get any on the rotors/pads. I think a replacement pad that has a looser fit will probably sort the problem.

I got the call from my dealership yesterday. Ford want to change the pads on my car to the new revised pad which is meant to be the permanent fix finally. I have demanded my discs be replaced since they have been machined 4 times on the front and once on the rear. Lets see if this makes all the difference. :kissmy:

Will let you know what the go is

Cheers....

My uncles manual July 2003 xr6 Turbo has developed really bad brake shudder, it has 27000kms on the clock are ford still fixing this problem under warranty. I should hope so because those brakes are unacceptable and very dangerous.

Well what can I say...I finally got my car back after 2 days. I took it in to get the new revised pads.....and a couple of minor fixes. The minor ones turned in to major fixes. Where do I start. They replaced my front discs...4 machinings in 18K. I would have gone right off if they machined them again. They replaced my front pads with the so called permanent fix pad. Only time will tell. I said there is a knocking sound when turning a corner at speed.....this took them over a day to fix. They coudn't find the problem so they stuck microphones under the bonnet to locate it. They couldn't but greased everything, tightened everything if it needed to and so far so good. They reprogrammed my car for Overboost. Car feels like it has more power. I said I had to top up my coolent level but I haven't noticed any leaks. They replaced the water pump. I said my steering wheel made a creak in the car when turning the wheel under pressure ...they said they added another nut (?). They tightened the intercooler hose for a whining noise the car made when put in to reverse when cold (I don't know if this has been fixed). And how could I forget...they tightened heat shield again but they said they added another clip. :nono:

Is this the end of all my problems? Time will tell.

Sorry for the long post...and I will let you know how these Permanent Fix Pads go :nono:

When you say they reprogrammed for overboost - what is it they do? Is it something I can request?

My brakes are rooted again (a track day killed them) and car is due for 30,000 soon so I might ask about the overboost programming.

Will also see if I can get these new pads!

Anything else worth asking for?

Deanclaxton,

Yes I got the new revised pads for the Front. Brakes feel great...time will tell if it's fixed for good. Ford had to order the pads in.

The overboost problem is a known issue. Happened to me 4 times. There is a TSB about it. They call it a flatspot issue. Car feels different. The power seems smoother down low.

If you have to ask for anything it's new discs with the pads. I told them not to give me the car back with the same discs that had been machined 4 times in 18K.

Car is a pleasure to drive again.....and I think it has more power...down low.

Cheers...

I had my T in to ford for three days trying to find a knock under the bonnet. Mainly happened when starting/stopping and low speed corners - they replaced basically everything to do with the steering and suspension and told me that they are not sure what fixed it in the end. That was 3000km ago and nothing since. :crazystuff:

Bit the bullet and installed a set of Bendix Ultimates on all four wheels. Solved the brake shudder problem instantly. Even after a brake skim at the 30,000k service a few days before Xmas the brakes were still showing signs of shudder. So they are nice and smooth now (for the time being!). Pads cost $350 at Coventry's, seem a bit pricey but they work well. They also appear to move freely between the shims.
