As the owner of 2 XR6Ts.. I have had the brake shudder problem on both my ute and sedan, both with less than 8,000 Klms on the clock. In fact my wifes sedan has had it done twice! (amongst many other things) :w00t2:

QFM pads Mr Chandra, available in most places, eliminate shudder

Or also try Bendix Ultimate if you cant find the QFM. I have over 30000km clocked with the Bendix/DBA combo now, no shudder. Mine was a very consistent shudderer before this. Best money I have spent on the car.

Trumpster, what does one pay for a set of Ultimates?

Got the shudders and need to address the problem now at 14000km.

lets see if I can summarise the fix options...

1/ Dealer machines disks, and I supply QFM pads - cost $50

2/ purchase DBA disks, and Bendix pads / or QFM or other quality pad

and sweet talk dealer to install in lieu of machining disks... cost $600~$700

3/ Purchase PBR Performance brake kit which includes painted calipers front and rear, larger 325mm front slotted rotors, and slotted rear rotors with new pads and braided stainless brake lines..... Once again try and sweet talk dealer to fit, but would anticipate a labour charge.... cost ~$2500 to $3000

4/ Go all out and fit a real high performance racing brake setup such as Alcon / Brembo / similar 4 pot or 6 pot system ...... cost > $6k

Any other proven fixes that should be added here?

On another note, who has experienced problems with cross drilled disk rotors.

They really do look good on performance cars, but I keep hearing (and I have even propogated the same like a parrot) that they are prone to cracking?

Is this just hearsay, or is it a fact.

Are there issues with only certain types of applications.....

The idea of cross drilled holes is to allow the escape of gas between the pad and the rotor under heavy application (slots do the same) and because there is more surface area exposed to ambient (due to the holes) the rotor should cool much quicker......

I have intentions to fit a mod for power real soon, and would like to improve braking performance as well, and do like the look of cross drilled rotors.....

but not if they will introduce other reliability / longevity issues.

cheers

tom
