I road tested an AU111 XR8 220 for a week culminating in a stack of laps at Winton Raceway. It all went well (apart from running out of brakes a couple of times on Winton's easy on brakes track)

After virtually losing the pedal and suffering significant shake (as one does on the race track), over the day following Winton the brakes returned to normal with no shudder whatsoever.

My 2 cents worth.

Greg Brindley.

Brake shudder,normally is a result of discs getting warped through usage AND sometimes your wheel bearings wearing a bit.Also wheel balance plays a big part.Hit a big curve and see what I mean ehheh:}

XR6 N/A with standard brakes (but almost every other option under the sun :smilielol:)

I had the shudder, had it machined out at 16,500 (running late for the 15,000 service) by Thomson Ford where I bought the car. However, SINCE the machining, I am experiencing a terrible *squeal* whenever I pull up. Doesn't matter what speed I am / have been doing, the damn brakes squeal each time and it seems to happen on the average break pressure that is applied. It's embarassing. If I break harder or softer than "average", then no squeal...

I've actually had to change the way I drive to rely on engine braking more (which I don't mind, LOVE the manual!) so as I don't spend as much time on the brakes. I like people looking at the car, but because it's Citric Acid in colour with "CITRIC" plates - not because every time I pull up at an intersection it sounds like I'm too tight to change my pads.

Anyway, has anyone else experienced this? I took it back to Thomson Ford where they told me they "skimmed" the discs and the sound went away for about a week but is now back with a vengeance. Now have 22,700 odd k's on the clock and don't know if discs should be machined again or pads replaced or what...? :smilielol:

Sorry CITRIC. No brake squeal after on car disk machining at 15,000kms. Now have 35,000kms & still no squealing (or shudder, touch wood).

After 10,000km my ute started to develop a very bad shudder. Toke the car back had shim kit fitted and had the disks skimmed.

Now at 16,500km shudder is their again but not as bad as befor.
