Hi iascmidt

The Qfm's (pads) that you guys are talking about, if I install these pads with the standard rotors will this fix the shudder problem?

I think someone on this site stated that he had done this and it had fixed the problem. Was it you?

It was not me but this maybe correct as I have dba golds and they shudderd with the ford pads but when I put the qfm's in it went away with no machining of the disc's so I would give it ago.

Hi All

I put my car in for the 15000km service last week with a slight shudder under brakes. I mentioned this to the dealer and when I got my car back he said that they had skimmed the discs and fitted the shimms as per the factory recommended fix.

Fair enough I thought, sceptical but we'll see how it goes. They didn't have time to rotate the tyres and wheel align as requested, so I took it to a local Tyre shop as they have the latest state of the art equipment.

After about an hour he comes and tells me that there's been a delay because they had to dismantle the suspesion to remove 3 shimms totaling about 25mm because it was throwing my camber way out.

He also said my toe was out of whack causing the car to crab down the road.

My concern is this; are these shimms the things they added just a week before and if so what do they have to do with the brake shudder issue?

Or am I Totally on the wrong track as usual? Any Ideas guys?

Hey AL they are different shims they had to remove the shims ford put in are on the calipars. The ones they removed for align are on the top control arms.

I think shudder is starting to kick in. My boss had shudder in his wagon, and said it was evident at light braking. When braking from about 80k's there is definitely vibrations, I think it could be starting, is it the case the quicker you get them 'fixed' the less problems down the track? I am worried, and the vibrations prob. won;t be detected by the service dept yet, I have noticed a small increase that's all.

Thanks Ian, that's what I thought but I just couldn't believe the ammount of shimm thickness they had to remove to set the alignment, it was way out. This is the first time it's had an alignment since new & the tyres were starting to cup on the outside edges.

Had I have left it much longer I don't think I would have made to 25000km on these tyres.

I recommend everyone get a wheel alignment done as soon as possible as if my settings are the norm, it's no wonder we're not getting good mileage out of our cars.

This is what I am going to do first up as I am due to put the car in for its 15K service soon. Get them to machine the discs and then installl the QFM's. It sounds like this could be the way to go? Will let know how I go.

If you use non OE pads and the shudder returns, do you think there would be cause for FMC to refuse any further brake shudder warranty fixes by the dealer ?

it shouldn't but it might depend on the relationship with your service manager.

EBC don't have greenstuff yet for the BA.

Due in a couple of weeks they say.

They have been sending VT pads to NT and having them modified for the police there.

EBC don't have a listing for the premium 2 spot caliper. They "think" its the same as the C5 corvette but are looking into it.

I ended up getting Bendix Ultimates for the premium brakes.Model nr 7599d731 ultimate..$175.00

I think its what ford use as standard issue anyway.

When I change them Ill send the old ones to QFM and get their best spread put on them like dbsteve suggested.

Still $175 is a bit better than $280. for the same bag of sh!t.

Sounds like a plan!

I believe this to be the best and cheapest solution to our brake problems without of coarse going to the added expense of aftermarket brakes!
