Posted 25/12/03 09:22 AM Share Posted 25/12/03 09:22 AM sounds like a good theory, but I don't drive my t hard and I use the transmission to slow me before applying the brakes.I have had the brakes skimmed 4 times. the last time being the perminat fix.well I would just like to say that the shake is back again, and yes I will see what ford are going to do to fix it.the t is just on 24000km. If the ford pads are left in there the shudder will come back guarnteed most of the problem is the pad material note just the disc's.The ford fix will not fix the problem as you have stated.Ian

It's just not our cars boys and girls. Since my permanent fix 4000KM and no shudder. Time will tell.

Time will tell. If I get shudder, you will find out about it. I figured just changing the pads would have been good but wanted the slotted DBA's. The Ford pad is pretty cheap. It's just not our cars boys and girls. Since my permanent fix 4000KM and no shudder. Time will tell. The VT/VX commodores suffered from a relatively well known brake shimmy problem which was due to a combination factor of the pad type, disc material and drivers who were generally light users of their brakes. The pad and disc were molecularly bonding under heat and creating a disc surface with microscope peaks and troughs. "Hard" use tended to keep them clean but brake friendly drivers were the ones generally having the problems. I believe the engineering fix was a skim and new spec'n (police?) pads.I think the ford issue is more serious and dificult to remedy long term than this.the Ford problem must be related to the configuration and metalurgy of the front discs (specific torque requirements needed). Hence, I was wondering how DBA has been able to fix the problem (for good?) whilst retaining the same configuration (dimensions) as the standard OE disc, for a straight forward change-over? Anyone had any brake shimmy/shudder problems with any of the dba (standard size) replacement options?I'm getting more interested in this as I think a faint shimmer is returning, appprox 6k after the full skim/shim/torque fix (could be just paranoid!)
