Holy crap! I started reading this thread yesterday and can't beleive it's December and people are still having problems.

I actually have a black XR8 due for pickup in a couple of weeks (or sooner) and allready knew about the brake problem and was going for slotted DBA's all around and after reading I'll be getting Bendix Ultimates too.

Yes it's a $50 000 car but the DBA/Ultimate setup not only should rectify the shudder, it also gives kick ass brake performance, for a LOT less than going premium. So I look at it as I ticked 'prestige brakes' but I'm doing it myself after I get the car.

I was going to get it done ASAP so as not to use the factory pads so they won't need replacing, but I'll get the Ultimates with it and drive a bit to see the difference. Not long, just a few days. I want to enjoy this car from day one so outlaying just a bit more for better brakes will be worth it I reckon.

Will have to do the wax/polish job on the wheels for the dust too.

from memory, I don't think there is much price difference between slotted and slotted/cross drilled dba rotors. These wer trade prices I was quoted so maybe the shops put more markup on the better discs.

Ponder this

If Ford fitted the premium brakes to the vehicle as minimum standard and raised the price of the car by $3000 to compensate. Would you still have bought it ?

Nope it would have been either turbo OR premium brakes, I couldn't have both @ that time.

After market is cheaper and I can save while I wait on my current brakes to shudder ;)

I would have been in the same boat. Budget was stretched for the T as it was, and if the premium brakes were included automatically in the T I would be driving an NA now.

Having said that, my $500 brake fix is still going strong. Had a very hard session at oran park in 31degree heat yesterday, and its still perfect. No complaints here.

I have had the DBA crossed drilled rotors now for 15000km and back to same same starting point of shuddering.I have tried 3 different pad compounds to no avail plus the rubbish upgrade spring clip mod by the dealer.I do alot of kms plus towing heavy loads maybe twice a month and have had enough.

Ordered new GT calipers plus rotors from a spare parts shop as ford were just way over priced and hopefully will fit all parts next week.

For my type of driving conditions and load pulling the upgrades to the standard brakes were bascilly a waste of money and could assume everyone here commenting on this issue will eventually be back in the same boat regardless of disc or pad used.Bascilly the standard brakes are to small for this application of vehicle generating way to much heat.

So if any body wants to buy a set of crossed drilled and slotted rotors plus calipers that will have to be machined to your hub by the way PM me and maybe a suitable price could be arranged.

Check out Motor Mag January edition at page 25. There is a (very good) letter about the brake shudder issue and a reference to this website thread as evidence of the size of the problem. Motor Mag put the issue to Ford and they have given a real "lame duck" response.

I quote:

" ..... The brake shudder some drivers may experience is due to minute variations in rotor thickness that may occur on some vehicles. It is important to note that this condition does not affect braking performance. ......"

Truely amazing spin from Ford.:unsure:

Parts #'s for those calipers your fitting would be nice ASNU

They are the GT set up mate used in the V8s.Not the brembo as to expensive.I got the rotors from a spare parts shop as ford wanted about $650 a rotor.Get the part number from the DBA website and get to no someone from a ford spare parts outlet so you dont get ripped off.You have to order the new brake lines to suit as well.I am only doing the front and dont have to change master cylinder etc.Get to it mate.

PM me if you want some contact details overhere in Sydney as my mate works in a ford service devision.

Aren't the brakes you are talking about just the Premium set-up?

Yes that's true.

Believe it or not although I have an account wth PBR to buy the caliper they don't know what the part # is.

Cheers
