On-car rotor machining completed & revised design brake shims fitted. Gone is the shudder. Now I'll need to clock-up the k's to see if it returns...

Im in exactly the same boat , In relation to Trumpy's post , please revert to my previous rant on this post. Dealer only found out about the fix after HO chewed him out after my tirade ( 2 weeks ago ...wtf).By the time the next fix arrives I will be on aftermarket jobbies, or my lease will also be up.

Ho hum

When does she get repaired & I don't mean Kathie's tummy, you rude bunch.

Scotty

p.s. Al this lot have kept me busy whilst you were away.

Scotty, got her back at 6pm on Fri...... not happy... waaaayyyyyy too much metallic in it. Made my concerns very clear when I picked her up, but unfortunately the boss had left for the day. He rang me over the weekend and I went down and saw him this a.m. It is going to be redone (another 2 days without the car).

For the week she was away, I was driving Terry's 1970 Datto 1200 coupe (4 different shades of white/black/bog etc) and visited a client who proceeded to laugh at me and said that I couldn't be seen driving around for visits in the Datto, so he gave me a 318 Beamer for the week (very nice of him... he owns a car yard).... what a slug of a car.

I'll tell you what, after driving those two cars for the week, my phantom beast feels like an absolute rocketship!!!!

She'll be going back in next week to be redone so hopefully all will be good after that.

Al.

My BA arrives in January and I am now glad I ticked the premo brakes option!

You did a real smart thing there feenix. Now you can avoid all of the troubles in the 27 pages or so of this topic.

It's suprising how many ppl read this and then still say they are getting the standard brakes, me included! Im guessing money is the main problem, being an extra 3 grand or so...

90% of ppl with the standard brakes will be regretting the decision at the moment so you made a good choice :drivingalong:

It's all very well saying buy the Premium Brakes and you won't get the brake shudder problem but their are at least two major flaws with that plan. One is they are not good value, being ~$3000 more than the standard brakes, especially when yo can get a similar (better?) aftermarket alternative for around $2500 less. The other thing of course is that the the discs shouldn't warp in the first place.

After fitting dba golds and using the standard ford pads the shudder came back after 6000 km's I replaced the pads with qfm type and have done another 5000 km's and with a lot of hard braking and city driving I can not make the shudder come back and the disc have no heat marks on them.

I suspect that a lot of the shudder issue is the material of the pads.

I think it is a case of finding the right ones.
