My Beast was picked up this morning for a service by a Ford dealer mechanic ( not my local , but the Fleet Ford Dealer) , and was running them through the "shudder bug issue" and asked what they were going to do to rectify it.

Quote" yeah we will get a bloke out to do an on car machine of the disks" I then asked about whether they would fit new shims ?

"What new shims ? , never heard of that" Politely suggested that he find out about it."No sorry sir we just machine em"

Starting to get P*ssed of now, and explained that new shims must be fitted .

" I will have to ask the boss about it"

Then asked that given the prevalence of this problem why he had not heard of the Ford Fix to which he repliied " I dunno "

Looks like a typical Ford Fob off. F!*#ing buffoons.

Next job flame service manager

A guy told me a while ago that he used car polish on his alloy wheels to seal the surface and it reduced the amount of dust caught up in the wheels by about 50%. The remaining dust came off easy with a garden hose.

I haven't tried it myself but it sounds like a good idea....

Thanks for the tip Steve and Andrew.

Will give them a clean and then a polish on the weekend, and see how I go.

Cheers!

Car back from dealer , disks machined NO NEW SHIMS fitted.

Rang service manager to enquire politely as to why ,

"Got a gobful , like what the F*#k are you talking about.

We have not replaced shims on ANY BA Falcons."

Thanks for the service Ford, looks like another dealer in the future.Cannot be bothered with this lot.Looks like I will just have to wait for the shudder to return.

All

In my frustration I rang FMC Customer Service centre, who confirmed correct "fix " .Dealer was then flamed whilst I was on hold , shims are now on order - apparently dealership didn't know !! Pigsss Ar#e

Apparently the fix is detailed in the technical service manual.

Whitetee, that's the ticket, if they stuff you about Ford Customer Service generally follow through, dont let em stuff you about.

As for the permanent "shims and Machine fix", it drives like new again, time will tell.

I took my T in for a new diff at the dealer and of course being

in WA they ordered (or received) the wrong diff centre, I had the DBA drilled and slotted golds and the Ford spacer kit fitted to the front of the car at the same time, suprise suprise the shudder is gone. Here is my conclusion. I was doing 230 kph a few weeks ago and a fast stop on standard brakes was completely out of the question, real wing and prayer stuff. The DBAs front only on standard pads are more progressive and better around town. A repeat of the 230kph stunt yesterday was still winging it, but there was certainly a noticable improvement and I didn't have to pray. Just ordered a set for the rear from Hoppers. When these are fitted next Monday I'll throw in some Bendix ultimates and see how much more improvement is available.

 I got so pis#*&%ed trying to make kW with this car that I ordered a GT-P. Now I'm gonna keep both heres what happened in the far west.

Car on dyno standard 237kW at motor

Car APS Unichip 298kW at motor.

Utilise 56mainline brilliant cold air xr8 induction snorkell + K&N filter.

Chop out centre muffler add straight straight throughs.

Replace straight throughs with 2.5in Mandrell bent stainless centre muffler.

Go back to dyno after feeling power loss, now only 268kW disgusting measly kWs at engine :banghead:

REMEDY. Swear and curse, go home, kick the cat, ignor the wife, lose too much sleep, ponder, ponder, ponder, have a brilliant idea = ring Ford dealer and order GT-P, now have product delay for Black GT.

New (in the meantime) idea, don't give up on the turbo.

Talk to APS, get bigger injectors and fuel pump then re-tune Unichip somewhere where they seem to have more customer interest.

Final analysis, as my better half said (quote) Christ you're a Doctor and here you are carrying on like a bloody teenager all over a car, just get it fixed or get rid of it. All I could do was smile sheepishly and mutter something about secret mens business. I think I'm gonna need some good earplugs when she see's the purchase order for the GT-P and the next VISA statement. I'll advise of kW results when it's done next Tuesday. :banghead:

Had the skim, shim (and presume correct torque) fix about 4000Km ago and everything OK so far - like new (moderate driving but this didnt help the original set-up).

Time will tell but has anyone had any problems after the correct fix?

If incorrect and uneven torque tightening is part of the problem then my concern would be at tyre rotation/new tyre/new brake times - even if you make a special request.

My dealer cant even carryout a tyre rotation when the service docket clearly says they did it !(I had one new tyre replaced a while back with a different cap and very different batch Manufacturing code, which I checked the pressures on the night before and noticed it's still in the same place when washing the T at the weekend

Perhaps the original tyre replacement and rotation was the beginning of my shudder problems?
