I am pretty certain from what I believe & may have already been covered in this topic is that IT WILL NOT MATTER how often you get the discs machined &/or replaced you WILL KEEP having this recuring brake shuddering problem due to the fact that it comes back to the construction of disc!!!

The ONLY true way you will ever get rid of this problem is by replacing the factory disc with a aftermarket disc!!!!

I personally have not had this problem yet (6,000) but then again I am not hard on the brakes, rest assured though if ever I do I will be repalcing the discs to avoid all the heartarche/head@#$%!!

I know I shouldn't have to fork out of my own pocket but I would rather spend $300-$400 to avoid all the headache knowing that I should never experiance this problem ever again!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah Bloan, I agree. If and when I experience this problem, the questions I will ask at that time are:

1. Has Ford come up with a permanent fix?

2. If not, what's the best value package at the tiime that achieves the following:

Good stopping in all conditions - I don't need or want brakes that are so race orientated that they don't work properly when I try to stop on an icy hills morning, soon after leaving home.

Well proven on BA.

Local dealer that is familiar with the product

Retention of warranty.

No ridiculous pad replacement prices.

If they enhance the appearance of the car, that's a bonus.

Trumpy, interested to hear that you have not been hard on your brakes and have suffered with prolem. must be frustrating the hell out of you & the other owners who,s driving style does not lean towards hard braking. hope FORD comes to the party with a permanent fix in the not to distant future!! bloan; I think you might have hit the nail on the head when you stated that "that the only way to rectify the ongoing problem is to relace existing rotors with after-market rotors". all the best matey,s . timmy

Guys,

I fully expect to have to fix this problem myself. I have had the shudder since 15000Km (at 26 now). The only reason that I havent fixed already is that I really wanted to see if Ford actually was able to fix the problem. I would have upgraded the rotors and pads anyway, I just wanted to prove that the permanent fix is a joke. Hence the word permanent is always within "inverted commas".

I really enjoy having a morning away from the office every couple of weeks. Gives me a chance to relax in the comfortable environs of te local Ford dealer. Enjoy the quality "coffee" they provide. Watch as we skim the disks away to nothing... You know the drill.

On a side note, a mate of mine just bought an ex-highway SS commo. It has DBA slotted fronts and, more importantly, quality pads (bendix ultimates?). Stopped very impressively every time. Never been a big fan of Expensive Daewoo brakes either, but we gave it a hard time and the brakes were perfect every time.

I kind of guessed there would be no good fix from Ford but still went with the std brakes.

I guess spending $1K on aftermarket discs/pads is cheaper than the premium brakes. Not as good I would guess, but the stopping power of the stds seemed fine to me so the cheaper option was the way to go...

Only 6K so far on mine, but "touch wood" no sign of any brake shudder yet.

I have had three different vehicles from different manufacturers which have all experienced brake shudder in some form, so the issue is in no way new to the industry. I guess the harder you drive, and the harder you brake, unless you have quality disc rotors eventually you are going to experience so form of warpage.

I hope it doesn't happen to mine because I am really enjoying the driving at the moment, but I guess if it does it won't be anything I haven't seen before.

SIDE NOTE: The BA brakes absolutely crap on my V8 VX Calais that I used to own, but then again I have always found Ford brakes to be pretty good. At least for the last few I have had (EF, EFII, AUII), maybe not so much in my older ones (XB Coupe, xD). The EFII braking was very sharp and took some skill to avoid everyone in the car from "bowing" when coming to a quick stop.

Cheers.

Brake shudder that's bad and all but what worries me more is the fact I don't feel good when braking at over 100km/h. horrible noises, brake fade etc. I am disgusted with ford for even having these crappy useless standard brakes available on the XR6T. And to read wheels and motor reveiws and suprise suprise ford gave them cars with the premiums! all I have to say is I reckon ford knows the standards are unexceptable if they were ok, they would let the journos have a car with the standard package. Also why do u think the cops are mainly in SS commodores, yes your right the brakes are unexceptable!!!! im not going to bother with this so called permanent fix, I instead ordered some 4 pot alcons with 330mm disks. now I should feel confident when I need to stop!.

When u buy a performance car u expect performance stoppers not taxi cab brakes. why was the xrt available without the premium option ill never know.
