Posted 18/08/03 06:30 AM Share Posted 18/08/03 06:30 AM Are there any ideas on why some cars get the shudder and others dont? I have an auto that has done 12000km. No sign of brake shudder. I drive the car as hard as anyone out there (averaging 17.2km/L) and the standard brakes are still perfect. Is it possibly how the brakes are bedded in, int the early km's of the car or is it more a random part thing with some components weaker than others? Lifetime Members 1,605 Member For: 22y 20d Gender: Male Location: Steel City, NSW Posted 18/08/03 06:47 AM Share Posted 18/08/03 06:47 AM I thought it may have been related to bed in, but now I am not so sure. I was one of the ones that originally answered the poll saying no shudder, but have now had to change my mind. Mine didnt start shuddering until after the 15000Km service, and of course now it is back every 1500 or so. I think that it is now inevitable that shudder to some degree will appear in the standard brakes, its just a matter of time.As much as it sh1ts me taking it back so often, I will persevere as it is fords issue at the end of the day. I have been tempted to go after market, but want to know the actual cause of the issue (and fix) first.

I am yet to experiacne shudder but I've only done 10,000km. Everything seems to wok perfectly with only a little scuffing noise when the discs are cold when travelling slow. Hope this isn't a preindication to probs ahead!

Posted 20/08/03 06:31 AM Share Posted 20/08/03 06:31 AM You are right this is resin although it is not a problelm in it self it may mean the pads are not working to there full compacity as this is harder than the section with out it showing. Guest sly Guests Posted 21/08/03 12:55 AM Share Posted 21/08/03 12:55 AM I've had brake shudder too. I may be saying the obvious, but there is a strong relationship to style of driving and weather. Generally, since I had my problem, the ford dealer advise me not to sit on the brake at traffic lights when it was raining, because the heat generated from stopping, then the rain on the brakes causes the discs to warp. Seams to work for me. shudder at 9k now I've done 20k and no problem.

That said previous series 2 XR6 had its discs machined 4 times during my 50ks. Current stoppers chalk and cheese with predecessor.WhiteTee
Guest flavze Guests Posted 21/08/03 11:55 AM Share Posted 21/08/03 11:55 AM Took my old's xr6 auto for a drive the other day, done about 3000 kays I think. Braked firmly from about 120 a few times and nearly sh*t myself it was shuddering and shaking that much.Felt like one wheel had come half off!!Mentioned it to me old's and they hadn't noticed it, they hardly ever go near 100 let alone over it.Spent it's whole life in the adelaide hils so the brakes get a good work out even when not drivin hard.If it was my car it would have been back at the dealer along time ago, but they are just gonna get it looked at next service.I think I'll be ordering the performance brakes on my ute when I get round to it, aint heard any problems with them yet.
