Mine's going in tomorrow for the brake thing and a few other minor items. (Missing tweeters on the A pillers, Slow coolant leak, occasional stalling in stop/go traffic, and exhaust heat shield vibration.)

Like OXR-747 I've got the constant rubbing problem. Does not dissapear with light brake applications so I'll wait for the dealer's diagnosis.

Still, all these little problems pale a bit on a nice cold morning when a little brisk acceleration is called for.

Nothing like it.

After reading this thread I've decided to add PREMIUM BRAKES to my options list. From what I've read, premiums don't have any major probs at all and reviewers in mags etc seem to say "Go the premiums". They will come at a cost though. I'm going to take the sat nav off my options list. I didn't really need it anyway (canberra is an easy place to drive) and maps are way cheaper and I seem to find my way around pretty well even in Sydney or Melbourne. Plus if I do get lost the XR6T isn't exactly a bad thing to drive ;) (any excuse).

KrasH,

I did exactly the same thing. Originally I had the Sat Nav, but after researching the brake issue, I changed to premiums.

As it turns out, later on I tried to add the Sat Nav back onto the list, but I was too late! Now I'll have to wait for the GT. :)

Is there any room on the poll choices for;

" I had originally voted no shudder but now do"

Auto's are leading the pack!

No downshifting = more load on the brakes.

I'd be interested to know what you do to fix your braking Steve....

Also, is the extra cost for 4000 series over longlifes worth it for road use in a BA?

As far as what I did to fix the brakes on the XR6T I had  . I fitted a Brembo caliper on a 330mm rotor.

If you are experiencing thermal shudder (Only when high speed braking 80+kmh) then the 4000 series rotors are worth while as they fix this issue.

I would like to know when Australian performance vehicles will be manufactured with 4 piston calipers as standard like the rest of the world. <_<

I'm sure I would pay an extra few hundred dollars (Actual cost difference) for them.

hmmmmmm

Seems to me by the sounds of it that its a pad/disc and caliper problem all in one.

If the pads are dragging on the disc caused by the caliper then your getting DTV. The disc is getting the blame because its the effected area but not necessarily the cause. Pads are an issue too as being relatively new very little is available. And as PBR/Bendix didn't supply the factory pad they don't have aftermarket availability in this shape yet either.

So logically a different caliper will help to inprove the problem.

Unfortunatly with the relatively small disc and the steering geometry the way it is a 4 spot caliper is very difficult if not impossible to fit. This leaves us with stepping up to 330mm to get the clearance required.

So the way I am reading it is that you need

1. Better caliper preferably with 4 spot design like a Brembo or AP. More rigid, better feel, less pedal effort required, good pad choice.

2. Better pad materials to compliment the performance of the car. These would be assumed to be supplied anyway with a better caliper.

3. Some of Steves discs sprinkled with pixie dust to make them "all powerful"....lol

I've done some rough costings based on what I've found out is available.

Using a Brembo Lotus style 4 spot. DBA 330mm slotted disc.Ferodo DS2500 pads.Braided hoses. And a set of slotted rears and better pads for the existing caliper. You should just get change from $3500.

Using AP 4 spot caliper it would be a hundred or so less as the caliper costs slightly less.

I have heard this is around the same price for the factory performance option (2 piston caliper) and your getting a better package by far. I've overhead that the disc on the performance package is imported. The pads are "nothing special" and you don't get stainless braided hoses.

So.......anyone for some better stoppers.......lol

 Got the turbo up to 4000 kms before the shudder began. Had them machined and it reoccurred at around 12000. Got them replaced and have now driven over 180000 with no shudder so far....

Took a bit to get them replaced but very happy now, ;)

At just under 8000kms, I feel a VERY slight light pedal shudder, and no shudder when stopping a bit harder.

I actually looked at the premium option and thought that it could be done better (if necessary) with aftermarket calipers, rotors and/or pads, for less money, and it sounds like it may be the way to go.

Hey Ken, why would you need Sat Nav??

Just contact Al - he'll tell you where to go
