ASNU> You are correct, my T3 has the premium brakes that are carried over to the BA. I had mine machined at 25,000km - they have been perfect ever since. It now has 43,000km.

Also correct again when you say I probably don't give them a real hard time - at least not in general driving. However I have done a few quick laps around Wakefield with the car and the brakes were fantastic - it is not a favourable track for a large heavy vehicle like the T3 and I was surprised how good the brakes were under virtually race treatment, albeit no more than about a dozen laps each stint. The T3 weighs in at a smidgeon over 2000kg with me in it and a full tank of fuel.

I had brake shudder on my V8 forte at around 37,000km - expected life (according to Ford dealer) for these rotors is around 70-90,000km. So they machined them. Shudder was back by around 60,000km. So I ditched the front rotors and replaced them with DBA slotteds for an all up cost of $275. Ford may not have paid for the new rotors, but at least I won't be back to them to get discs machined again! I've now done about 12-13,000 km and brakes show no sign of shudder - and the brakes bite better with the slotteds too. I highly recommend this upgrade - even at your own cost, like I did. Or try to get Ford to foot the bill.

I should of realized your TS came with the good brake package being the top of the line car but you never no with Ford,You will probley advise me you had to option this as well.I wonder if the the big brake package is made from the same disc material effecting all the T cars as I would not of thought you would have had to have this done or come across this problem.

You are right mate with your fix,Dont wait for it to come back just fix it for good and be done with it.Will be going down this track I think.

This is what im thinking of doing - at the first sign of shudder replace all 4 disks with DBA Gold disks.

Is there any down side anyone can think of to doing this???

I dont mind forking over the $600

I cant see any warrenty issues - I mean the existing brakes are covered and what good is that doing anyone!

Any thoughts appreciated.

I have had DBA discs on my Jag for about 3 years, and I am also running Bendix Ultimates for pads.

Absolutely no problems and heaps better than standard.

I would seriously doubt Ford having any issues with owners running better brakes, because they would not cause any problems that Ford would have to cover anyway.

Have just noticed a shudder braking from 70km/ph going down hill. I do this trip every day. Have 5000 km on the clock (manual version XR6T) Thanks for everyones thoughts and comments. I haven't tested the car under sports driving yet but will do this before making a decision. At this stage it sounds like fitting DBA gear is the way to go.

After reading through this thread, it sounds like even if Ford replace the disks on our XR6 there is a big chance that the brake vibration will be back pretty quickly.

This leads me to a question about the DBA brakes. I like the idea of getting a set of DBA slotted rotors and it sounds like they will both increase braking performance and be less likely to warp. However I have no idea how to go about getting them. What is the best way to go about it? Do you go to a specialist brake shop where they can fit them etc? Do you need to upgrade the brake pads as well?

I really don't have a clue how to go about it. :blank:

Also, approximately, what sort of cost is involved to go to these DBA slotted rotors (including fitting etc).

The XR6 goes in on Tuesday (to the Ford Dealer, to get them to look at the brakes) so any advice / comments you can give before then would be greatly appreciated.

Im getting my car this friday, I sprung for the premium brakes so I should be ok, but if I were having poblems, I'd be inclined to wait for ford to come to the party and fix it. (eg new rotors up to the job? better cooling? or whatever the problem is. :thumbsup: ..) I had a similar recurrent problem with an A/C unit in my EFII, ford replaced it 3 times and gave me a commitment that if it ever broke again they'd fix it for free. I think they will look after us.....

Funny how the motor writers slagged the durability of the manual but didn't comment on the brakes....A few of the articles I've read they were given the T with premium brakes, one wonderes if ford was aware of this problem earlier?
