Was at the impressive Metro Ford facility yesterday with Al (AXW01,) should of seen the look on the Fleet guys face when the topic of shudder came up (Al has had 6 sets of Rotors & numerous machinings on them in 70,000k's.) He was feeling it every 3,000k's.

Fleet man said "that's very poor, we've had virtually no problems with BA shudder here at Metro's." My laughter could be heard throughout Brisbane.

New rotors at 16000. Now shuuder just starting to come back at 31000.

When I had the 30thou sevice I asked them to look at brake pads and replace with QFM if they needed replacing. Service guy said that would void my warranty on brake shudder. As it turns out they are still seviceable. BUT: Is he correct? If I replace them with QFM and for some reason the shudder comes back, is Ford entitled to void warranty?

He said they have a new Ford pad compound coming soon that 'should be a permanent fix'. (wonder if they are just getting QFM pads?)

Of course they did not want me to fit QFM as they are half the price of 'Ford' parts.

FYI guys, I've had RaceBrakes (here in Melbourne) RB74 pads in my T for about 6 months now, fitted them just after my last (and I think it was sixth) 'anti-shudder' machine, and haven't had a peep out of them since.

I've done a good 20000 k's, and two track days at Phillip island, with no shudder at all.

Might be worth considering?

I used these pads on ny old WRX, and they were great on it too, except for a bit of squeal, but I haven't had any noise at all from them on the T.

I had my 30,000km service yesterday. One of the things on the list was the brake shudder issue. The front discs were skimmed at 15,000km and again yesterday. This morning on the way to work I'd swear it started again! I've had DBA drilled and slotted rotors (front only) on the car since the first service at 3,000km, but the shudder issue is still there. The shudder problem is being caused by something other than the rotors. Any ideas?

This morning on the way to work I'd swear it started again! I've had DBA drilled and slotted rotors (front only) on the car since the first service at 3,000km, but the shudder issue is still there. The shudder problem is being caused by something other than the rotors. Any ideas?

Have they replaced the Shims ?? This was the supposed fix for pre Oct 03 Ts .

Memory might be a bit out though :lol: Buggered if I am going to troll this thread for the exact answer. Also are you still running the std pads ??

From the original query it sounds like you are using the original spec pads and this is probably the issue as they cause a build up of gases at the pad/rotor interface which then results in hard black deposit on the disc rotor which feels like a warped disc but actually it isnt.

I have just had the brakes done for the 4th time at 42K, all post shims and this last time was a disc & pad replacement. Labour and discs were warranty but the pads were $180 (which I was told was at cost?) and I had to have the original ford specn pads fitted otherwise by the dealer oterwise they didnt want to know and no more warranty cover, so I will be waiting for it's return.

Whilst not premium brakes , a reasonable option is DBA 4000 slotted front rotors and Ferodo performance pads all round. Cost about $850 fitted. Car stops heaps better, less fade and importantly no shudder.

If you are keen to keep going back for countless machining that is entirely your call,you still had to pay for the pads so I dont see the big deal over maintaining your warranty on rotors when you have to put up with terminal shudder. :blink:
