OK...My question for everyone. I have had the new Shims put on to my car last November. So far so good. I just rang my dealer and asked them if there was a new braking system for the BA...since Oct 03. He said it's just the Shims...the pads are the same. So I still have the original brake pads and discs (matchined 3 times) on my car. If there are meant to be new pads put on to the cars I need proof so I can take this to my dealer. I'm taking my car in for other warranty work so on Monday so your thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Greg.

Discs machined at 6000km, then again at 14,000km. Now @21,000km shudder not back so far.

Mind you I have had nothing but other problems, besides the "teething problems you'd expect (power window issues, bonnet release broken, exhaust rattles, brakes machined etc), in the 15 months I've had my XR6T since new I've had these major show stoppers:

* @300km: coolant leaking

* @1,000km: turbo replaced (I believe it was never working to begin with)

* @7,000km: brake failure light comes on pulling onto freeway - brake hose has ruptured....and that's only 300km after they machined the discs

* @19,000km: Heater core goes...leaks into cabin....had reported smell (which turned out to be slowly leaking coolant for last 10,000km, but Ford could never "fault")

* @21,000km: Car had no power, stalls 3 times at lights....barely pulls away, takes 2 seconds to windup to 3k rpm....fix, was to reflash ECM..

I am at my wits end here. When it goes, its a great drive, but I am stuck catching a bus every two months while the car's in for "major" work....

Ford doesn't want to hear about the problems...."There just the wholesaler". My dealer only cares about their most recent fix....

I am slowly left to believe that there is something "CITRUSy" about my XR6T, even though it is Mercury Silver.

If this keeps up, I am going to have to sell it :smilielol: ......its costing me too much down time in terms of work and time :(

Past Angry...

I think you'll find that the brake shudder was alot more common in the earlier ba's, the newer ba's have come out with a different pad and the shudder seems to be less common... though I could be wrong

If Ford area ware of the brake shudder problems, why have they not recalled all vehicles and had the problem fixed? It would be alot cheaper for them to do that than face a class action by angry owners.

Lucky my XR6T came with premium brakes.......

And there will be no class action

Despite all the talk nothing has arisen from this has it ?

They seem to have addressed it now......just a new model teething problem would be their opinion.

Had front discs machined at approx. 16000klms and have now got 34500klms and have had no recurrence whatsoever? Have had 300kw upgrade since (at approx. 20000klms)and given her some harsh everything, including braking!.

Heard that the series 2 is coming out standard with the premuim brakes (Brembo's I think!) to solve problem. ---- Spewing----
