Yeah right, they'll be sh*tting themselves when you carry on like that.

Try & remember those service guys are your friends, they didn't make your brakes shudder or even build the car. One day you might need a favour & they'll remember how you've spoken to them, this I will guarantee.

To improve your relationship with the service department try ringing up & congratulating them on doing something right, it'll shock the hell out of them (as 99.99% only ring to whinge & we all now how much fun those calls are to take) & get you places you never thought possible.

For instance, I'm overseeing the construction of a friends house currently & am in regular contact with the supervisor, every conversation goes well until he says, "what's the problem." I say nothing Mick just ringing to tell you how happy we are with everything, now do think I have problems getting anything changed or altered? Not likely

I'm giving away my secrets, what am I thinking???

Well, my ute has recently developed signs of brake shudder. It's in for the 15000km service today aswell as getting the rotors machined. If it happens again I'll have to think about replacing the rotors to some form of aftermarket product.

I have a question for you lot.

I recently bought a non contact infra red thermometer (for work of course) and was playing with it measuring the temp of everything I can find.

It only measures from +500 to -50 deg C.

Now on the snowy sruise on the weekend after a bit of spirited driving, but not thrashing it so the brakes had been working but were not "Cro'd" I measured thier temp with my new 'wankerometer' as my wife unkindly calls it.

The fronts were about 165 deg and the rears were 195 deg. :o If this normal?

I understood the fronts do most of the work but realise that the rears are unventelated. I thought the braking system would have been designed to keep them about the same.....or is my handbrake adjustment making heat as well as an anoying sound?

BUT, the XR6T STINKS!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a 'burning' smell coming from somewhere. It's worse than the 'new car smell' I'm used to.

All I can say is that it is NOT from the engine bay - it doesn't get worse when I stick my nose in the bonnet.. Rear brakes?????

Oh, and there is a small puddle of 'red something' under the right front wheel. Tomorrow in the light I'll look at the fluid levels.

I agree with the others that the smell went away after a few weeks.. Just have to put up with it..

Did you find out what the "red something" was... My brand new T put a big puddle of red fluid down the first day right beside the right front wheel.

Called the dealer and they raced around and took it back - seems that the pipe from auto-transmission to the cooler had not been tightened properly... and I was busy emptying the transmission all over the ground.

Could be you had the same problem??

Intersting poll so far, but don't be fooled by the numbers.

Looking at the graphs only gives a percentage of people that have responded and their car/driving preference - you need to look at the total percentages of responses and the changes:

The split of total responses of Highway v City is 24% to 76% respectively.

When you look at the problems Highway v City is 33% to 67% respectively, so you see a relative INCREASE in the problem for HIGHWAY drivers.

In reality the sample (number of responses) is still too small to tell anything.

You can't tell from the poll if Auto or Manuals are more prone as there is no base data. All you can tell is that more people with Autos have replied (as you would expect with the new Auto box...) and the fact that more people live in the city (and hence drive there) and so prefer to rest the left leg than stuff the clutch all day.

Shame we dont have the split of auto v manual for cars with no problems

The rear discs have a thicker wall section therefore they cool slower. The wall on the fronts less the vent are 8mm. The rear 16mm.

Sometimes car manufacturers tweak up the rear brake bias when there is an issue on the front to take some of the load.

well Hi all first let me introduce my self.

My Name is Wayne, and I live in Melb, I have just brought a Blueprint XR6 sedan in Nov 03 which now has 8000 ks' on the clock already knew about the brake shudder probs so I took the car straight to Herrods in Melb to have the big brakes fitted and since then I have had nothing but brake shudder it is now on it's 2nd set of rotors just changed a couple of weeka ago and for the first week it was bloody fantastic.

I thought aaahhhh at last it is fixed but guess what it's back again and now it's whineing really bad as well when I turn left, the shudder is really bad you can feel it throught the wheel, through the drivers seat it's driving me mad.

I love the car to bits but at the moment hate driving it any where where I have to do a lot of braking.

My driving is about 60/40 in favor of local driving at 60 to 80 k's.

The car is going back to Herrods again next week for them to have another look and we'll see what they can do this time.

I have no problesm with thier work they have done a great job but the brake shudder is just so stressful.

I have had a look at thr rotors and they have some really dark almost black heat marks on them and then in some areas the rotor loks like the pad has'nt touched it.

At very slow speed I also get a pulsing feeling right through the whole car as well.

The shudder happens at all speeds, it was suggested that I just needed to take the car out and give it to it and nail the brakes 1/2 a dozen time to bed them in, and I have tried this but this has not worked I've had it well over the ton and still no change.

I have read what other people have said but I have already had the big brakes done and still I have the problem would love and really apreciate some feed back of any type.

This sounds a bit odd.

What pads are being used in this kit?

Is this the kit with AP calipers?

What diameter rotors are on this one? (or wheel size will do)

The dark marks is usually sign of pad material transfer. It gets worse as they heat up.

just had the 30000 km service done on my t and yes the brakes fixed for the sixth time. they actully put new disks on this time but left the old pads in and they swear black and blue that there is no problems with the pads.

I'll see what they say in 5000km when I go back for the brakes again.
