I just got qouted $390 for a 60k service from Ford for a BA.

Apart from warranty stuff, what is the real difference in taking it into a well known shop that would do a major service for half the price?

I phoned a dealer recently and asked for a quote for the 60,000km service and they said around $400.

I took it to a specialist Ford tuner shop and they serviced it to the handbook for around $80 plus parts.

NEVER AGAIN WILL I GO TO FORD - $99 an hour for an apprentice and charging for stuff they don't even do is not on, IMO

That's not a bad price at all. Do they have access to apply new PCM updates?

Does Ultra Tune? What about TSBs? These are the only reasons really that I can see for continuing to got to Ford dealer (but how often do dealers know nothing about a certain TSB even though it has been posted on the forum). If Ultra Tune and other non-dealer workshops have access to equipment (like WDS) and TSBs then it would be a no-brainer.

I have been told that ultra tune and those sort of places have access to clear codes on the ECU but I'm not sure if they would be kept up to date on TSB's and the like. I know exactly what you are talking about when you say that Ford service departments usually don't know about them either. I took my car to get the steering rack fixed on my BA XR6 Turbo after reading about it on the forum and they had no idea what I was talking about. The same about the squeeling premium brakes. Just need a bit more information about what they can and can't do I think.

There really shouldn't be a need to update the ECU if there is no problem.

Ford only updated mine becuase I took it to them with a aircon problem, which is covered under warranty.

I just called Ford again, they said it costs $390 becuase of what needs to be done according to the service manual. It took the service manual to Ultra tune and they said they will do exactly the same for $170 including parts and lube (I use my own lube anyway).

sorry ford, you have just lost my business.........apart from warranty stuff.
