The BF is almost identical, just a few bits are different, such as the oil filter thread is larger.

What? the Z9 wont fit no more?? damn!!

What othere differences are there that you know of?

I too have heard about the core shift problems on the BA blocks.. when was this resolved?

Dont know of the exact differences, but they are minor, probably a different thread here or there.

I'm not exactly sure when the core shift was fixed, but supposedly it only affected a few early BA series 1 cars.

In my original (Nov. 02) built motor, the block was fine, and the cylinder walls were OK when checked, so as I said, it is random, and you won't know until it breaks, or you pull the engine out to check.

Th motor now lives in Hiddeous' ute, and has not had a single problem since being built by Simon from Xtreme.

Yeah, thankfully I still had a filter for my GT still lying around. It's great to know that my local ford spare parts know the difference

I can confirm that early (2002) ba blocks have shallower engine mount threads than later (2003) block...i found that out when i tried to bolt the mounts up and the bolts where 15mm too long... .....

Well, the project is starting to move forward

Yesterday I ordered my new Mahle forged pistons and Atomic 'Fat Rods', so as soon as they get here I'll get stuck into the engine build.

Aiming to have a totally indestructive bottom end, with Kostecki oil pump gears, Atomic 'Fat Rods' and Mahle forged pistons.

I was impressed that Simons F6 didnt bend the rods (he runs 'Fat Rods") when he 'hydraulic'ed his engine a few months back, so they must be tuff.

Will post pictures when I get the gear :spoton:

As promised, hereby pictures of the block, Atomic 'Fat Rods' and Mahle pistons.

Photos on the scale shows the difference between stock piston weight and Mahle forged pistons.

As you can see, the piston is 40 gr lighter than stock, but the 'Fat Rod' is 40 gr heavier than an F6 rod, so all up the rotating mass is the same when compared to an F6 stock engine.

Engine rebuild is starting this week, with block, crank, rods and flexplate going out for machining and balancing, as well at integrity check, so hopefully I can strat putting it all together late next week :nerd8:
