Dave what is your current response to this situation ?

and are you still married ? :D

Still married...

I learned years ago not to TELL the wife anything. As for leaving the lights on...I can understand how it happened, 2 screaming kids, a pram in the boot...etc. No wonder she forgot.

I was hoping this little jigger would be worth the $140 and would save a flat battery. Nah, that would be sensible. after all it is "intergrated to the ecectronics" so I'm sure it would be easy enough to do.

Oh well $140.00 for a relay and a piece of wire...I could have done it myself for far less and probably had the dash lights come on too, and have a bypass switch so I could disable it if required :(

Just read the details on the Ghia auto on/off light system, it's in the owner's manual on page 89.

I have read it and there is nothing to indicate it is only on the Ghia's..or did I miss something?

BTW. I'm damn sure that when I was first researching the car on the web, the auot lights on/off feature was available on the XR6T as a selected option on the price and configure form.:blink:

You're right Dave, it doesn't actually say "Fairmont Ghia" anywhere, but they are referring to the Ghia system.

You're also right that this system should be an option for us, only problem would be the light sensor that is mounted in the top of the dash with this system.

I find the audible alarm when the lights are left on to be quite loud. Even the passengers in my car notice it. I don't want to sound like I'm having a go at RichDave's wife, but I reckon it would be pretty hard to not hear it and turning the headlight switch to off doesn't take much.

wally at westpoint is looking into the availability/feasability of fitting the Ghia setup...I all comes down to cost now.

The other option is to get some technical data on the current setup and see if I can mod it to suit my needs/wants.

My old car had the best of all the above.

1. Any lights left on (I.e. boot open, door ajar, rading light lest on, headlights..anything) would automatically turn off after 10 mins.

2. If you pulled the high beam leaver as you are getting out then then the high beams came on and stay on for 30 seconds or so - enough time to open the hous door and go inside.
