GST may be a factor also here..... $almost 3k worth.

I would suppose the dealer is obliged to charge/collect GST on a sale.

Not sure what the broker did about this.

Brian

Purchases of second hand goods from a private person "shouldn't" gather GST, But the buisness selling to another buisness, must charge GST

so assuming a 26K sell price to the dealer,

$2,364 GST

$23,636 Item cost

so the broker might have been part of the dealership, or has a deal to sell some ars on their lot maybe?

I remember a few years ago going to a dealer in Sydney with a mate who had a Nissan Pathfinder 4WD he wanted to backtrade on something - he didn't really care what, it's just the payments on the 4WD were killing him. This one car yard had the same model Pathfinder on their lot for $29,990.

My mate's one was a bit rough, had a small ding in the rear 1/4, probably would of cost around $1000 to fix. Anyway my mate saw a Expensive Daewoo WB Statesman hidden up the back of the lot. Looked like a drive car of one of the salesmen or maybe it had just come in because it hadn't been detailed.

We enquired what changeover price they could do. The salesman went through the usual farce of going to consult the boss and scribbling figures on a bit of paper at the same time madly punching calculator buttons. After a few minutes he came back and said if we give him the Pathfinder and $10,000 we could have the Statesman!  :roflmbo:

Statos were only worth about $6K at the time, maybe $8K for a mint-low-mile job-only-driven-on-Sundays-by-little-old-lady. My mate figured $20K would of been a reasonable trade in figure for the Pathfinder considering the dent, not pay the car yard to take it!

mwhahahh they'll try anything !!!!

The yard adds on 2500 as a lot fee, gst ect and they then have to make a profit on the item.

I traded a car in for 21k FoMoCo dealer had it for 27k 3 days later...What did you expect mate? Its business, people have to make money

As I've said twice now, I just thought that someone either buying or selling a 'T' might get something useful out of the information!

Oh boy!

my other favourite dealer tactic is the way they preach redbook values as the be all and end all when considering your vehicle for trade, yet they will quite happily say redbook doesnt count when you ask why they have added $10-15k on top of the redbook value for an item on their floor

I actually had a broker approach me saying he had a buyer for my car if I was interested, so I say no worries how much? $28,000. Told him to piss off. :spoton:

Disappeared from the yard after being advertised for $27,990. Guess someone thought it was a bargain!!

Wonder if I'll see it around?

Whoever has it, look after it! :roflmbo:
