That site is what made me decide on the 17-55. Bit exxy ( I thought rc heli was exxy!! ), but a very good lens nonetheless.. Very informative website too. I might keep an eye out for the 40D and time my 30D purchase around it.. I have read the 30's are not moving very well, nor the new 400D.. OK, so when I'm away, I was going to take the lappy to offload my pix. 6.5 weeks is gonna chew memory, so is a card reader onto the lappy the best bet?? ( It's what I usually do, but didn't really want to drag the lappy over there. )←mate personally I wouldnt use a card reader but rather hook the camera up by USB - ive had a couple of mem cards become unstable/unusable by using them in different readers etc.. not saying its the case with everyone, but ive had zero probs since just using the camera + USB to transfer pics

Not sure if they more expensive ones are better or more reliable though?

That approach is much, much slower than using a card reader. I've had zero problems with readers. Juts don't get a cheap chinese knockoff. Stick to good brands like Lexar and San Disk. of course I've heard of people having issues, but as a % of the number of users it appears very small.
