Sorry I think I've explained it wrong. When I said "drilled a hole" I meant that I plugged the return pipe so the factory bov vents to atmo. I put the chair leg cap on the end of the blow off valve, the part that vents to atmo, and drilled a hole through that. Not the bov itself. Exactly the same as envy-t.

The bov is way too loud and sounds crap without the cap on it. The small hole through makes it much quieter.

Bufhoon what you're saying sounds right. At idle it is open a little bit but you're right, as soon as you give a little bit of throttle it shuts down. Just wanted to check this was ok.

Bov is back to normal anyway now as too ricey for me.

I had mine like this for about 3 months, then put an aftermarket one on. You will be sucking in unfiltered air, as I have learnt through these forums. that's not to good.

I now just have the stocker as per factory set up, cos the noises were starting to sh*t me. I would prefer to have no BOV, cos I like the mild dose, but as learned again via these forums, with a BB turbo, it adds alot of strain to the shaft, which is naturally thin to compensate for the size of the bearings.

ENVY T - Are you saying its not a safe option to do the stock BOV mod?

I have just read the topic and am considering doing it, but wouldnt want to do it if its gonna strain the turbo or engine...

I want an aftermarket one anyway, so it would only be temporary - until I bought a GFB or turbosmart one.

Is the BOV mod (atmo the plumback stock BOV) gonna harm the engine? Has anyone figured out a way to filter the air let in once the factory BOV has been modded??

Some of the guys were putting those little 9 dollar monza filters on, it would work, but after having it, I ask why? In legal terms they are illegal, so why do you want to bring more attention to yourself?

I know Geea is running 380rwkws, and he still uses the stock BOV. If it's one less thing for the constabulary to ping you for, then again, why do it?

But if it floats your boat, go ahead.

Thanks for the reply - I guess what im asking is, if you do the BOV mod and have a 10mm hole for it to vent to atmo, is there a chance or has anyone experienced any damage by potentially having unfiltered air enter the inlet through the 10mm hole??

In other words, aside from chances of a defect - is it a safe mod that will not cause any harm to the engine at all... If so, ill try it - if its gonna harm or strain the engine I wont.

It cant be too hard to reverse should I not like it anyway... Am I correct with that??

Any unfiltered air getting into the engine can be bad, no matter how small. And reversing is piss easy, but if your gonna go aftermarket, just wait till you get it. There are a couple of jobbies that fit the standard plumbing withou the need to buy a conversion kit.

Yeh, noticed the turbosmart kompact and a GFB BOV fit the factory location so was gonna go one of them pretty soon.

Wondering if a bit of fly screen wire over the 10mm hole will be enough??... I know miniscule grains of sand would fit through, but I cant see much sand sittin in my engine bay for a start, and the air would have to flow sidewards for it to get into the hole as it wouldnt be facing front on... and the fly wire would stop anythin big gettin through at least....

I done this on the standard but its not loud enough for me. I'm only running 10psi though.

What else can I do I was thinking of closing some of the holes up in the monza pod.

Any ideas?
