Wow, some of us have a short memory???

Anyone remember the Phoon clutch problems???

I think both Ford and Expensive Daewoo need to get their act together in regards to build quality, that said it's a new model, so they are probably going to have problems...

One of my friends told me about this guy who he works with.

He purchased this gen 3 ss, at around 30 000k's engine died, had it replaced under warranty, next engine used oil so he returned it to which they honed and re-ringed, it still used excessive oil so returned again, this time they pulled it down and they found bores to be oblong and not true, this was why it was using oil.

They decided to give him a new higher output motor which as far as I know is still going.

But get this he got pulled over by the police who found no engine number, they impounded the car till all checked out and he was made to stamp a QLD DOT engine # on it.

I would hate for him to try explain to the person he sells car to, how come it doesn't have original engine?

Poor bugger.

The person who bought up F6 clutch problem would that be the only recall for Ford in the last 10 years or are there others I have not heard about.

Anyway the cluch was not a Ford factory made part it was designed & manufactured by one of the worlds best clutch manufacters in the world.

If you are holding this against Ford I think you need to get it right.

From what I read about the whole issue I feel Ford did very well with all the investigating of the course and the fix for the problem.

gmh last 10 years about 23 recalls.

We all look to Europe with regard to build quality and warranty awareness...

I still remember delivering 12 pallets worth of freight back to BMW every single day of the week that were ALL warranty items... 3 or 4 engines a day, 5 or 6 transmissons... and more on top of that.

We all look to them, how good are they, German cars are so good... no they aren't. They suffer from exactly the same issues we have with our GM's or our Ford's... the reason why we don't hear from them in this country? There isn't as many euro owners here as there is there... we are only now starting to see many Euro cars here and they too suffer from similar problems that GM and Ford do here. How do I know? The place I work for returns and delivers the replacement parts to these Euro brands.

I still look back to the poor owner of a new M5 (200 and something K anyone) who went through 5 transmissions in the first 10,000k's, all failed, and at the time BMW had no idea what the cause was... they replaced them all under warranty of course... but nearly to the tune of 100k for all 5 transmissions...

It's not just Ford and GM who have issues with failures, it's all car makes... the only reason we see heaps of Ford and GM is that they are the 2 biggest car makers in the world.

Anyone remember the first incarnation of the Audi TT failing because they designed the car without a rear spoiler? What happened? It lost control at high speed...

Anyone remember the 'moose test' with the new at the time A Class Mercedes? It flipped when pushed hard.

It's not about short memories, it's about accepting the fact that what you have is faliable, it just some might fail at some stage, not everything is perfect. When they involve this much technology cars certainly aren't perfect regardless of brand or where they are made...

I know a guy who had a SL55 merc ($$$$$) that had broken down on him for the fifth time in front of a large prestige car yard. He walked inside with the  , threw his keys at the salesman and told him the trade in's out the front, what is he gonna sell him...

Mercs are way worse for reliability that ford and Expensive Daewoo put together, and 6 times more expensive to fix...

My grandfather used to say Car of the year was shared between manufacturers,

never really judger properly.

Pity car warranties are not like items bought elsewhere, eg- you buy a Fax machine from K-Mart in two months it stops working. You return the machine for a full refund.

Recently had a bad experience with the only product I have ever purchased new,

Yamaha outboard(just quietly) the warranty is not worth a pinch of shiite.

Never been a Expensive Daewoo fan but feel sorry for people who forked out good dollars for poor product.

Goes to show how much faith to put in motoring mags.

Funny isn't it.The poms(Top Gear)love the Monaro. The yanks love the Pontiac GTO and are clamouring to sign up for the new G8(SS Commie). The yanks on US Mustang forums lust after Falcon XR6 turbos and GT's etc,yet all the Aussie media and some of the punters want to bag the local product. :idunno:

Wait until the Orion comes out..................

We have some of the fastest and most comfortable cars in the world here at an affordable price...Think of something built anywhere else in the world as big, comfortable and fast as say.........a Typhoon or SS Late model camira and ask yourself what it would cost and what badge it would have on it...

Count your blessings folks.
