agentorange,

your post got me thinking.. you would think that longer on L's would give kids more expierence, but in reality, with that expierence comes the mindset that they ARE good drivers and can handle any situation..

not sure what can be done to get the kids to this point where they can handle any situation thrown at them, but until then kids will die on roads..

one thing is for sure, speeding fines arent helping!

to the OP, I guess that this unfortunate expierence may be enough to help you and your mates think twice, but how to get to this point without someones you know dying? I dont know..

We will never know the true cause of these accidents until they put black boxes in cars.. And that is probably not far around the corner..

It's already the case Blonky - they've been fitted from the BA onwards.

I am sure that every car fitted with an airbag will or can retain in the cars ECU memory the last 10-60 seconds of driving info before the airbag deploys.

This info includes wheel angles, brake application, SPEED and throttle position. I think the police still need to get a court order to gain access to this info, but most car companies will get the ECU data and pictures of the wreck to examin real world crashes and how their cars stood up.

There was a well publicised case a few years ago of a Statesman driver who fought and won against the police when they wanted to see the black box data.

that's interesting I didn't know that, but its already been established that the car hit at 120kmph.

If he hit at 120kph, what was he doing prior? 160kph?? In an 80 zone???? :spoton:

I actually never have 'runs' with P platers, women or bunky cars... Ontop of 'time and a place' sense of judgement.

It's the mindset the young guys have to come to terms with and ultimatly change, and learn how bad you are on a track, by yourself!!

No. The the maximun speed reached was that of impact. Having spoken to somone in that car the driver did not brake, but tried to steer around wen the taxi come in frount..it was over in a matter of seconds. There are no skid marks at the scene.

Also I'll add the driver of the car was not a Plater. Was 23 years old... It doesn't change anything but I thought I might add that seeing as people are bringing up P plater issues

I disagree.. if there were no speeding fines or hoon laws, I would have been drifting around every corner & doing 130 on the freeway on my P'z..

but like 70% of p platers I thought I was in control of my car :spoton:

but now that im older and have a high(er) performance car.. I realise.. I got a looooong way to go!

Well there's ya problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never said there wasn't a problem. what is it with people here and taking words out of context. It was a response to a comment indicatiing that the driver could have been doing 160kmph. Of corse there was a fuking problem, that's why somone was killed.

Im regreting starting this thread..the point was that this could happen to anyone on the roads, and it was meant as a reminder, not to argue about the skills of young drivers and how they are all so dangerous ect.
