Edit And Warranty

A little while ago, I asked if anyone had actually been caught.

The answer, in a round about way was no.

According to Nizpro, Ford can't detect the edit itself. What they can detect is if they reflash your car while in service, then next time you come in the old tune is back, they'll think something is up.

However, on this note, we all know hoe incompetent Ford servicing is and they would find it very hard to proove the apprentice actually did the flash or just ticked it off as done (something they have been caught on with oil and plugs etc).

Another way is that if you flash the car back to stock there can be a date code left. It may look a little sus that your car was flashed the day before it goes to the dealer.

On the other hand, just about any mechanic has data loggers for all new cars so they can do warranty servicing etc. It they use them, then they will also leave a trace.

I've head logical explanations from tuners and mechanics as to why Ford can't really detect edits, unless you do something silly, with plenty of edited cars going back to Ford undetected. On the Ford side I've heard nothing but hear say and no solid proof.

As far as the you play you pay thing goes, that's fine for stuff that breaks because of mods, but with the reliability of Aussie cars and their tendancy to break stock, why give Ford the opportunity to refuse repairs for a rattly dash because the car has more power than stock.

If your just at ford for normal servicing and maybe some non motor/trans related warranty issues then they have no concern to look for Edit, but if you come in with a rod poking out of the block they may start investigating...

Your waranty's fine for the rest of the car, you may just have to fork out for anything that breaks in the motor/trans/drivetrain

I see what your saying Ian, but I'm especially interested in cars that are running edit only. No other changes.

I lasted, let me see, a good 2 weeks with edit only.....

These car's respond sooo much better with injectors, edit, exhaust etc, dont let the "what if this breaks and what if that slips" ruin the fun. Its all what if's, no point worrying about something that hasnt even happened yet.

Unless you are a bit like Ross, and always see the negative in everything.....

I've notice New Oak Ford (in Oakleigh) sell Herrod Edit boxes (aka Capa Boxes). Does anyone know if one is to purchase this product through this Ford dealership that Ford will then still warrant the car fully????

Another reason for stealth is insurance. No one wants their insurance company to wheasle their way out of paying up because of modifications. I know you are supposed to tell them, but I seen plenty of examples where Insurance companies refuse to pay claims because the mods they'd previously said were OK, are now deemed outside of their guidelines.

I suppose that is one way of looking at it but if you break a gearbox or something, it will quickly turn very expensive. Somthing I probably won't have the money to replace. That's why I'm looking for someone that is running edit only and want to know how they have gone with their warranty.

If your gearbox goes when you are running edit YOU should pay not ford

It is people abuseing the system that make it even more difficult to get ford to repair things

So the verdict so far seems to be that they may be able to detect that something is up by the date of the flashes. If that is the case, I would think it's safe enough to do. Thoughts?
