doing this to my car today. got it apart, pulled the old filter out and went to re tighten the bolt that contained the old filter and cant get it to tighten up flush to the block. is it supposed to be able to be tightened so its flush? its not cross threaded. sits out about 2-3mm from the block and I cant get it to tighten any further than that

It's a tapered thread so I relies on the the taper to seal not a flush fit to the block so as long as you applied sealant to the threads you should be okay. Be careful not to over tighten the fittings as the blocks have been known to crack if the fitting is over tightened.

I have been considering whether I do this or remove it completely.. How many people have done this and had problems?

I have an fg ad my concern is the filter becoming brittle being that's it plastic as has been going through hot and cold cycles for the past 5 years. Being that my car runs full synthetic oil I can't see there being much sludge and metal should only be an issue on initial 1500kms. So correct me if I'm wrong but why is it even there? Because ford recommended oil is a mineral oil?

Pretty sure ford only recommend mineral for run in, then semi-synthetic after that (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Some people don't do anything, some remove, and some change to an earls filter. Only times I've heard of turbo's going is by leaving it as is so you're going to get different opinions on what's best so hard to make your own judgement

Just removed my screen. Took about 20 mins. Removed my air box. , 24mm sidchrome ring to crack both bolts and a tiny sunglass flat head to remove the screen. Back in and running with no leaks. Easy job

I was wondering though would removing it cause issues or decrease life of turbo in long run as it was mentioned earlier in this thread that the oil pressure/flow going to the turbo might be too strong?

Does the factory filter provide enough flow even when putting a big aftermarket turbo on?
