Accessed from underneath with the filter out and with a 24mm long socket with small extension. I must admit after reading this whole thread, I was expecting it to be a bastard of a job based of what some people have said. I have average spanner skills and it was real easy! I had more trouble turning the oil filter (I had to resort to the screwdriver and hammer method!).I have a BF with 127kms and the screen was visually clean and it was relatively easy to blow through. I pulled it out anyway and replaced the whole line with this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170501427061&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:ITI normally get a max boost of 6.5 - 7 psi but after this and putting in some new oil my boost peaked at 9psi tonight. Anybody know why this might be? The car is stock apart from a CAI.

I have removed mine completely as generally most things will be caught by the main filter, and those little bits should go through alright. Each to their own really, its the first turbo vehicle I have had that had a pre turbo filter.

They are the ones we fitted. make sure the heat shield is turned down near the oil inlet as heat from the turbo can burn the clear cover on the braided line. It did on one of mine. Replacing the turbo soon though so thought I might try look after it.After looking around, it would appear that these are just inline fuel filters (what the manufacturers list them as)Different brands have different size filters too, so might pay to check before buying.Of the 4 suppliers on ebay I asked, all of which are using Earls filters, they range from 35, 85 and 150 microns. No point getting something that's just going to block up like the factory filter, even if it is easier and more convenient to replace/clean.So, which size should we be shooting for? whats the factory filter? and wasn't their a revised filter also?EDIT:http://www.earls.com.au/files/2011earlscatalog.pdfpage 59. lists them as both oil and fuel filters. oil to use 140 micron filter, fuel to use 85.I'd be double checking in future before buying one, as only one of the guys on ebay I asked was usinga 150 micron filter. enginepartsaustralia - 150 micronsfittings2u & geskin-international - 85 micronsnahux - 35 micronsfurious_8 - MSCN filter ?? microns (no reply)Dave

Not going to tell anyone to get rid of theirs, but thought I'd add my 2c.

The smaller you go the less dirt and what not will get through.

1600dave Donating Members 872 Member For: 13y 11m 19d Posted 29/07/11 03:52 AM Share Posted 29/07/11 03:52 AM The finer the filter too, the more likely it'll block/cake up again too.Considering the 35/85 are designed for fuel, and 140/150 for oil, that's what I'll be going for.And yeah I'd be looking at taking it out completelty than replacing it. if you want to replace it, get an inline filter setup from ebay, heaps easier to maintain.Dave

The std stock filter is 70 microns, I have measured it under a microscope. You will not be able to tell how blocked your stock filter is just by looking at it with the naked eye. the 140 micron filter is just a strainer.
