Must remove mine also... up to 75,000ks now, I think the sand is gone from engine castings or whatever it was to warrant against!

I have read that Ford are meant to remove these filters in the first service after new cars are purchased and then run without from there on it.

Garrett had also confirmed this and said was something ford have neglected to do thinking 'it will be fine for the life of the car'.

Reminds me how they claim no need for servicing on the ZF or diff either lol!

There is a larger filter which is a replacement for this stock one, it will go in as per normal but its got around 3x the screen area to allow more flow - I have opted for this filter for now but if this one gets to the same point, I think I will just ditch it and keep up my 5k oil servicing.

The filter in the ETM isn't very fine when you see it in person, it looks considerably bigger than the fly-screens on my windows/doors at home lol - I question why have a filter at all.

The idea is great, bring the filter to a much easier location for service; it would be perfect if it had a decent filter in it.

As for the looks, that's personal opinion hahaha :)

Oh, and be ware all lines no matter how thick or what they are made of will eventually have some sort of build up in them; don't ignore these lines going from the filter to the turbo guys.

There isn't, as long as you piss the car off the day after the warranty expires! :spoton:

I'd love to know where that is in writing.

That would be a massive case against Ford if proven.

Well, ask Ford nicely and they might give it to you. :roflmbo:

There were many 'agreements' and strong 'recommendations' that Ford would of had to see to before Garrett would supply and honor warranties for these products.

Ford do not decide on everything that is needed to keep the turbo going on these cars... ok, think of it as if you were building turbos and Ford asked you if they could put them on a series of their large engined high performance family sized cars. Chances are (we would hope lol) you would know what is needed to keep your turbo in good working order and what would kill them or degrade their expected performance/life.

I would cheekily joke that knowing Ford, it would have never of had a filter if the first place. Or they might have even had a worse way to lubricate/cool them!

Exactly.

In that case, these filters are probably of the same type fitted to dry sump systems.......only there to catch busted parts debris. In this case, there would be no difference in fitting a one piece line from the engine to the turbo.

If the std engine filter can filter the oil for bearings, vct phasers and the like, then why do some think it's not good enough for the turbo?

Hey everyone thanks for all this I noticed a rattling noise from under the bonnett yesterday took it to ford thinking it was a turbo problem only to find it was the exhaust gasket but after reading all this I will be removing the screen ASAP. Just have a few questions when removing the screen and piping do I have to drain the oil from the car if so how many liters does it take and what should I put back in it, and also when I put it all back together and put the oil line back onto the car befor I connect it to the turbo do I have to purge the line with oil befor start up if so how do I do it thanks to everyone for your help sorry if I asked questions that have already been answered hope my car lasts a bit longer now!!!

Only a few ml will run out when you pull the fitting apart....no need for any refill.

No need to purge the line as the oil pump will rocket enough oil into the pipe on engine start up.

As far as oil, they take 6 litres for an oil change. Penrite, Castrol, Nulon would be good oils to use just to mention a few. Genuine Ford oil filter good value and quality.
