Good idea.. Personal opinion is that in the original run in of the engine their is quite a bit of small metallic particles floating around so the filter is a great idea to protect you turbo but after the first few oil changes chuck it.. If you have enough metallic matter in their to damage you turbo I am pretty sure that is the least of your worries...

How can it restrict to a known pressure if it doesn't know what the supply pressure is ? According to Garrett you need 40-45 before the turbocharger, clearly people are running much higher pressure with no obvious issues.

It doesn't restrict an unknown pressure as such but It will only allow the amount of oil into the turbo via its own fitting that is necessary.. You can try and pump as much in as you want ie. removing supply screen but the size of the Garrett fitting will only allow what it wants.. You basically can't over oil the turbo as far as I am aware

Search Garrett FAQ, " Does my turbo require an oil restrictor". I recently spoke to someone from Garrett, he told me that there is a maximum recommended oil pressure to the turbocharger before the inbuilt restrictor.

Will it do damage if you remove the screen and not fit any other filter

G'day , I'm pretty new to this forum and I've read this entire thread because I had the same concerns as you.

As far as I can work out, it's OK to remove the screen once your car has had a few oil changes.

I'm about to remove the screen from my 08 FG XR6t with 145,000kms on it. That's if it hasn't already been taken out .

The talk is that the screen was put in there to remove material from the engine run in process( casting sand, fine metal particals etc)

The talk is that most other Factory Turbo motors don't use a filter or screen for their turbos.

The talk is that Ford should have removed the screen after 1st or 2nd service but in most cases failed to do so.

The talk is that many people have removed the screen with no problems.

The talk is that it does not control oil pressure to turbo unless it blocks up.

The talk is that if you leave it in there and your slack with oil changes then you will probably have issues with it blocking oil supply to the turbo.

The talk is that if the screen is blocked this can also leed to the line blocking up to the turbo because of lack of flow and high temps near the turbo.

The talk is if you are still worried about removing the screen then go on Ebay and for about $170 you can put a new line in with cleanable filter.

Well I think that's about it, you make your choice about what you do based on how you feel on the above!

For me I will remove it and through it in the bin and forget about it.

Yeah I removed mine today and luck I did. It looked pretty blocked. Also didn't want to install a braided line as I like the look of the stock line. Looks more neater.

How'd you get to the screen mate?

Probably a good idea to post how to remove it if you've got the time

I got mine done by my tuna but I'd like to know how to do it yourself
