HOLY GUACAMOLE!! Buffy :omg:

and I had a whinge over my "excess water bill" $217.58

which was soon followed by a letter to get a checkup for a leak by a plumber and if leak was found council would remove the excess charge.

I have since found out other residents have received the same letter.

ITS A CONSPIRACY I SAY :spoton:

keep us posted

personally I would be going with "spy hose cam"

if you bust the bleep - I suggest a bottle of round up or CONDIES CRYSTALS in the hose..

personally I prefer the latter, a nice purple pool and lawn would be a giveaway :tease:

Id say either the neighbour or someone parked a water tanker out the front and let it try to fill up overnight.

Buy a cheap webcam, and connect it to your PC and have it film your front yard taps to see if anyone is mucking around with them. I woudl suggest taking the T bar off the top of your front yard taps too, or put a lock on. Less likely to be your back yard taps, but if your neighbours can get in and out easily and you are away often, that's a risk too.

if you dont find a leak as recommended by others here, find out from your water company what happens if you report a water theft and get a police report. They may have a policy to let you off and send you a more normal bill.

Given the water shortages in many places, this sort of thing will become much more common, and they will have to loosen up their "its all your problem" attitudes.

Check your previous water bills.....

Ensure that the consumption volume readings written are consecutive...

that is, check that the previous reading on the current bill, is the same as the current reading on your previous bill.

Go back two years of bills to MAKE sure all the readings coincide correctly.

Some of these wally's read the wrong side of the dial when the needle (or number) is at a changeover from 9 to 0.

hence you're deemed to have consumed an extra 1000kL possibly...

It does happen.

also....

Did you mean 975 kL when you wrote 975 Ml ???

Typical flow from a single domestic tap is how much? maybe 60 litres/min.

975 kL is a lot of water....

that's 975000 litres.....

would take about 12 days of continuous running to consume 975kL.

975Ml would take 30 years

All I can suggest is monitor your meter (take a reading) each night to establish if there is a spike in consumption on any particular day, which may coincide with the use of certain garden taps/sprinklers/ or laundry days/ or days you are not home!

It is possible that someone could have hooked into your supply line, but don't jump to conclusions till you've verified the leak is NOT associated with your own pipes.

Hope you get a satisfactory outcome.

Guys , thanks for the responses

next steps are as follows

1/I am going to take twice daily readings to track usage as there appears to have been significant increase over normal even from the last reading.

2/Get a plumber to leak test house and mains to be on the safe side

3/Front tap is getting shut down

3/ Sydney water have deferred the bill pending the above

there is some weird sh*t going down for sure :gooff:
