Buf-Phoon loitering with intent Lifetime Members 13,318 Member For: 21y 5m 3d Gender: Male Location: Zombie Birdhouse Posted 07/02/07 09:02 AM Share Posted 07/02/07 09:02 AM Hi allThought I would share this yet to resolved issue.Got home early today in order to avoid potential hail damage to the NN due to encroaching storms in Sydney.Dutifully grab mail , rip open Sydney water bill and FMD and some, $ 1600 dollars WTF, this has to be a screw up surely.Straight on the blower to Sydney water, " Yes that is correct Sir, in fact we took an additional reading because it is so far out of your regular usage pattern"Yes I know that "But sir because the water has passed through your meter you do realise you are liable"fair enough rationale, so where did all the water go ?? Normal bill is around $170.00, so where di nearly 10 times the amount dissappear to?I have always watered as per legislated times except when I cheat on those days ie, use a drip filter during permitted times which uses a pooftenth versus hosing in any case. Now considering I was away from the house on and off for over 6 of 13 billed weeks where the fark did it go. Only 2 options1/ I am leaking nearly 975 megalitres, that's right nearly 10 farking million litres per quarter.2/You would have thought that a leak of this size would have caused either water damage, green spots on the lawn , subsidence etc , nothing Meter appears to be ticking over at the normal rate ( I will have a plumber leak test the mains to be sure)Only other explanation I can think of in hindsight is that the next door neighbour's once average looking lawn , has now been top dressed and is now extremely lush. Swimming pool is fuller than precipitation would allow and is now clear as opposed to the mankie pond prior( the bill prompted a look over the fence)maybe I am thinking the worst, but the bloke has thieved bushrocks from me in the past that are now proudly on display in his yard. Couldn't prove it so said nothing. Is this history repeating itself, yep I think so.I will wait for the plumbers report before I execute him Your thoughts grrrrr

Went from $200 per month to $900, but they changed it when I told them the correct reading. If the meter is correct, and you are not leaking, then go and speak to the neighbour.I hope it is resolved in your favour. Go and read it again first thing in the morning, before you SS&S, and compare the results. If its higher, you have a hidden leak somewhere. As far as I can remember, if that is your first hidden leak (sounds like yes), they should let you off and charge you your normal average consumption. But, you will need a plumber to confirm the leak was there. If the readings are the same, you have a thieving c nut of a neighbour. 2MUCHKW Member 350 Member For: 18y 9m 3d Posted 07/02/07 09:33 AM Share Posted 07/02/07 09:33 AM Make sure you haven't a leak!!!!!!!!Ensure all your taps are turned off just before going to bed and that no toilets are leaking ... then write down the meter reading. When you get up in the morning go straight outside before turning on any taps and do another meter read ... THE READING SHOULD BE THE SAME!If not you have a leak in an obviously unsighted location ... maybe under your house slab or some other fun place to repair Good luckCheers

You may have a leak directly into sewer... Or worst case, you may have a leak into the sewer next door like you say..!!
