Hi Everyone,

I am new to this forum and am hoping to draw on your expertise.

I am looking to purchase a new car and have been told that Ford is currently the best manufactuer to purchase from.

I have narrowed the field down to three cars based on research from the Ford website and was hoping you could provide your honest opion as to which one you would choose and why:

1.

XR6T (6 Speed Manual Transmission)

XR6T (6 Speed Auto Tranmission)

2.

Fairmont Ghia

3.

XR8 (6 Speed Manual Transmission)

XR8 (6 Speed Auto Transmission)

Please note, the cost of the car is of no concern.

Thanks very much for your help

What is it you want in a car?

A comfortable, efficient, family car?

A Loud, 'Look at me', bruiser?

Or maybe a Sports saloon, to be modified to be a full on street bully?

thanks all for your responses.

As much as I'd love an F6 I'm limited to one of the three. As for the "cost is of no concern" I'm lucky enough to work for a company who are willing to offer one of these cars as my own daily driver (which unfortunately means no modifying allowed). On the positive note though, it also means no fuel costs.

As a daily driver I'll be covering around 110km per day for work alone so comfort & 'power' (not paying for petrol :welcome2: ) are necessity. People have told me to go the Turbo in the manual, others have told me to get it in the auto as it's got more response (especially the 6sp). Then I have the other group who say go the eight as it's more enjoyable to drive (fortunately no-one has told me to go the eight in a AUTO). I don't know what to choose........ please help!!!!!!

Go the 6 Speed Auto Turbo, unless you really like to row gears.

Once you've driven the Turbo, you wont want the Fairmont (N/A)

You can always "Edit' the T. Company will never know, except for the tyre bill :welcome2:

Go for the XR6T in Auto. Great around town, handles better than a V8 though the exhaust note on a Ford V8 is the BEST! :welcome2:

If you do want to save your company a few bucks, the T can be surprisingly good on gas consumption on the open road. Whatever you end up getting, you're going to have fun! :sofa:

I'd say the T with 6 speed auto (which implies BF).

Color? Well, I can tell you in this day of high water restriction, black will get very dirty quickly requiring frequent visits to the car wash. I've heard that silver is better but harder to match up paint work with touch up paint for those inevitable stone chips.

If you have a chance to option it up, here are some options I'd consider first. Get the side air bags (if you're spending a lot a time on the road, it may help), tow bar (for the handy versatility of being able to hook up a trailer) and 6 CD changer (so you're not mucking about searching for that CD whilst driving).

Luxury items on top of the above would be leather seats (easier to keep clean after food and drink spills) and a sun-roof (for those days when it just feels good to cruise).

It's possible that the T (sans options) will probably cheaper than the Fairmont Ghia or the XR8, so it may help your company as well (and your hip pocket if you have to salary sacrifice to get the car).

Hope it goes well for you :welcome2:
