She alternates between PULP & unleaded.. wonder if that has a bearing?

now theres a clue.....I have switched to the new BP PULP (98) but some times use the 95 or the ULP when the price is at the high end of the cycle. I can't remember if it happened after a fill of ULP  I do remember though, that the car seemed to ping a bit when I left the servo on last fill of ULP. It didnt last long though. Perhaps the ECU cannot easily (quickly) compensate for the change of fuel under some circumstances.....like a fuel line full of 98 octane, then a load of 91 octane 'cause I filled up on the cheap.

Yep, had it a couple of times now. Seems to happen after not driving the car for a few days. Generally starts second go, but with a rough idle for a few seconds.

I've done it a couple of times, but it seems that if you let go of the key and the motor hasn't quite picked up, then it gives a little "sneeze" and takes another couple of go's to fire. It may then also idle like on 4 cylinders.

I turn it off and leave it a few minutes and then it's all sweet again.

Maybe the "sneeze" confuses the computer or something?

Not sure if you guys realise but you can actually hold the key in the start position until well after the engine is running. ie no need to flick to the start position the let it go quickly.

The electronics automaticly disengage the starter as soon as the engine is running.

Try it if you dont belive me. With the engine running, turn the key to start. No starter grinding.!!

Just to add a twist, I havent used PULP yet at all, and have never had a starting problem. Only the idling problem.

I havent had the problem at all

I ALWAYS use Optimax - no exceptions

I had a faulty VCT solenoid but no starting problem so I doubt it is the solenoid at fault

I have also had a week away without it being driven - no problem then either.

Richdave.

This is only a insight in what I have found over the years with the injectors Ford insisting on useing.Back when they bought back the Windsor 5.0 they all fitted Nippendenso injectors instead of going for the Bosch items which are far better quality. The petrol that we can buy from either huge manufactures like Shell or Mobil contains some very interesting additives that these injectors do not like in standard unleaded.Let alone the stuff the supermarkets bring in from Singapore. The sulphur,Tar and Varnish build up occurring everytime you shut down would quite discust you.All it takes is a mircoscopic bit of tar or varnish to form on the pintle and seat of your injector and you will have leak down overnight causeing the car to either be hard to start or start up on 3 then 5-6 cylinders. This is only a observation that I have found over the years being in this business,Building a machine to solve these problems.I would recommend if possible and if it is not to expensive to always insist on buying a High octane fuel as Optimax or Mobil and stay away from chaseing cheap fuel. You will always get another 50-100km out of a tank so it is worth while in my opinion. The majority of Ford dealers have my machine in NSW anyway but if your problem continues and Ford cant fix it please do not hesitate to contact me.Maybe this is the problem,Maybe not but just a thought.
