But I can’t wait that long, so I need to get an interim powerful car that won’t loose its value. The only car I can think of the Falcon AU III TE50/TS50 in manual form.

Cons; there is a lot of hassle finding such a rare car. No warranty on the Falcon, and I don’t know for sure if the R36 will be coming here.

Not hard to get at all, told you before I know of at least two for sale. PM me and I will send you the details.

Warranty is just words written on a bit of paper, in most cases it means Jack anyway as many forum members will tell you - "within tolerance" and "they all do that" are two common phrases that spring to mind. :stirthepot:

Dunno why you want to spend all that money on an 'interim' car that you only plan to keep for a year if that, just buy a $500 sh*tbox and cruise around in that.

I find it better to 'test drive' cars belonging other people I know (such as other forum members - thanks John, Julian & Jeff) rather than a new one with some c0cksmoker salesman riding shotgun panicking every time you exceed 60km/h. You feel more relaxed and can take in the experience better.

Love that GTS can't believe how it handles and how quick it was! But then again it's the new HSV range. FPV range has been out for a while but wait until the new one comes out!! I was really disappointed with the FPV dealerships. We could not take the F6 above 4000RPM, I was like why mate??? It's company policy any cars that has below 500KM on it need to be driven below 4000RPM, any way Love that F6 the 6 Speed auto was unreal but with all The KW it’s got and very torquey but can’t put my foot down :w00t2:

Cro I reckon we need to take Jeff offer as I do like the F6 better then the GTS

For some reason! The GTS has more features & options but I still love the way the F6 looks and I have a soft spot for them. Just need to make another note Ford/FPV dealerships need to lift their acts up if they keep acting like they were yesterday with Cro and myself they will lose lots of business.

Dal.

Ivan,

I voted for the F6 as I know you liked mine and they are designed for us big aussies.

The GTS will plummet in value as all the HSV do. Later this year I am sure they will bring out a model refresh and depreciate the current spec ones.

As for the VW, forget about it. They are designed for little people as you would be lucky to have me and you sit in the back seat without touching elbows. Their boots are small and they cost a bomb to service.

If you want an interum car, go and buy a old GTI corolla that you can rev the crap out of, it has 4 doors and about the same interior space as the VW pissup.

You should be going where your head says is the best way...GO THE TURBO WAY, get an F6 :w00t2:

I know we've chatted about my old man's Pissat before, but the more I drive it, the more I hate it too.

It's well equipped and goes alright, but it's seems VW have tried too hard to fill it full of hi-tech and gadgets. Aside from the dramas he's been having with the car (not counted because they could be unique to the car) that DSG box is completely impractical in a luxo model. In an attemp to try to proove it's a manual, the stupid thing allows the car to roll back and it needs 3k plus to get the thing to stop rolling on hills. You can press the anti roll button (which in itself is utterly rediculous because Subaru have had auto anti-roll back on theit Forester manuals for years), this locks in with a thid and releases with a thud. You can't leave the stupid switch on either otherwise it starts to lock up when you're slowing down in traffic and below 10ks is like slamming the brakes on. Also, this supposed manual box won't change when you want to in manual mode (which is arrsse about, forward for changing up). The ZF box (which is essentially a differently configured DSG) shiets all aver it.

Unfortunatly, I feel that what is essentially a nice car, is ruined by the box.

Back to your question, if you want a stop-gap car for now, go a low k EVO. They are priced right, will reasonably hold their value, and will be a heap of fun while you make up your mind or are waiting for something else. The F6 would be good, but will only drop further as we aproach the Orion release.

Hey Mal, just to put a different perspective on things...

The Passat has more head, leg, hip, shoulder room in both the front, and rear seats than the Falcon. The boot is also larger than the Falcon's boot.

You're right about the servicing though.

It is a manual box, and if you are sitting still the box is in neutral. Hence the rollback.

It definately sounds like your old mans Passat has problems with the DSG. In every Passat, R32, GTI I've driven the DSG box allows me to change up whenever I want, and downshift right to redline whilst blipping the throttle. Just like a true manual gearbox.

He also has problems with the Antiroll feature, as in every other Passat I've driven the feature comes on once I am fully stopped, and releases as soon as the accelerator is pushed.

The ZF box (which is essentially a differently configured DSG) shiets all aver it.

The ZF is an automatic transmission, driven by fluid. DSG is a manual transmission with two hydrualically operated (rather than pedal operated) clutches.

In any case, I'm not after the same Passat your old man has now, I want the sports version that hasn't yet been released in Australia.
