Throghout history, people have criticised those in power by picking out the wrongs they have done (regardless of the good they are doing).

Hindsight is a fantastic thing and the management of countries is not as clear cut as the media or general political arguments would like us to beleive.

I'm not supporting anyone here, just trying to offer a balanced view.

The republic argument is neither her nor there. It is a tool that has been used by Australian pollies for years to divert the public's focus from bigger issues. The flag needn't be changed because it is part of our history (as is the Union Jack in the corner).

Now lets get back to arguing about cars instead of getting into the sticky web of politics. :tease:

I think we should have been a republic 10 years ago.

Religion should be banned from any political decisions WORLDWIDE

George W should be impeached and jailed for crimes against inteligence and common sence

I would rather keep our flag as it has been ours for a long time and we all like it.  If people want the union jack removed, then add the abbo flag in place of it.

We should make decisions that affect our country for our country NOT to be part of a Coalition.  The USA are self appointed holy crusaders with a hidden agenda and a lot to answer for.

:tease: Very true words Zap.......

I'm with NOS BOY on this one.

I get sick of hearing peoples simplistic views on these issues and others.

Wake up and smell the roses people. This is a currupt, bent and injust world we live in. Best we roll with the punches and do what we can to survive in what is a very tough playground.

I think that as australians we really need to close ranks a lot more than we do and start taking care of number 1 a bit more rather than licking america's ars*h*le all the time

Hmmm, let me see

Bigger population - No.

What we have is probably not sustainable and the world would be a much better place with much less people in it, not more.

De Salination - No.

Not needed with a sensible sustainable population and the realisation that we do live in the driest populated country in the world not a southern hemisphere verison of Britian or the US.

Think for ouselves - All for that.

Get Nukes - Hell no. What does that do for us other than get some pointed our way waiting for some crazy to push the button.

Canada as a role modele, what about NZ. They seem to be able to do their own thing and not get involved with US hostilities and they don't have a larger population or nukes.

As for the flag and the republic.

IMHO the republic is long overdue and I don't want another countries flag (or any other minority group) displayed in the corner of our flag. The current one clearly does not represent everyone that calls themselves Australian and does not necessarily reflect their history. The ideal time for these changes and to showcase to the world our new flag was the 2000 Olympics. An opportunity lost.

That being said too much patriotism is a bad thing.

We need to start thinking globaly not nationally. There is only one planet and it's just about stuffed.

:roflmbo: + 1

if all the yank soldiers were disgusting dirty f*cking animals like the terrorists and went round torturing and cutting their heads off etc, the war would be over in 10 friggen minutes...

but instead a few (iraqi/arab cant remember but more than likely anti-westerner) prisoners are made to pose with collars and probably have a few beatings etc and theres a massive uproar..

Agreed

Disagree. We need water now, at the current population level. Business is by far the biggest user of water not domestic anyway. A desalination plant will use a resource that is currently not used and at the same time create more jobs (both in building the plant and ongoing jobs in running the plant).

Think for ouselves - All for that.

Agree 100% there. We have become another state of the US and our Prime Minister is just a clone of GWB - though a bit smarter.

Get Nukes - Hell no.  What does that do for us other than get some pointed our way waiting for some crazy to push the button.

Agree 100%. Don't need to attract any more crazies then we already have.

Canada or NZ. Anyone except USA.

I'm not really sure what a republic will achieve except a whole lot more expense and different politics. I've got nothing against the flag, I can understand the emotion attached to it because people fought under it, but  Iguess if we were to become a republic than the current one with the Union Jack in the corner is not really relevant or correct anymore. I haven't seen any other design that really 'does it' for me yet.

That being said too much patriotism is a bad thing.

Yep. We should all sell out cars and buy hybrid Prius' - just kidding! Seriously, we do need to look after the planet better.
