What is the most amusing rumour you have heard about the XR6T?

After I ordered mine but before it was delivered, a "friend" (drives a VX SS) told me that

"The XR6T had to be recalled because the turbo got so hot it was blistering the paint on the bonnet."

All this despite the turbo being a low boost unit over 200mm and 2 heat shields away from the bonnet.

I know we should not aid in the propagation of such misinformation, but this was so funny I had to share it. :D

Anybody heard any other good ones?

I heard that it burnt oil like it was going out of fashion, had slappy pistons, ruff riding suspension, poor plastic fit with cheap flimsy feeling componants. Boot and panel were out of line from the factory and the factory souped them up for the reviews!!!!

OH hang on wrong car!!!!!!!

Anyways I now know why the Gen III had so much power compared to the AU's. It's a two stroke!!!!!!!!!!

Damn.....not driving mine hard enough, not a sign of blistering paint on my bonnet yet :D

Seriously though, what mental midget came up with that one, the snail would have to be running 'cherry red' to do that

I've popped the bonnet after hard runs before and the turbo has been glowing red. Nothing is blistered, melted, etc. I reckon you would pretty much need the turbo so hot that it melted the heat shielding for it to do anything to the bonnet!
