Ok its been a while since I last posted here, so I thought I would get your views on

this little issue that I have been tackling with since I got my Xr6T last year.

To be honest I have always like the look of the VX Clubsport R8 but couldnt really afford one at what the cost at the beggining of last year. So hence I settled for

my XR6T which at the time was somewhat cheaper than the clubby.

But just today I decided to go down to my local Expensive Daewoo Dealer to have a test drive of a VX R8 that came into the yard. So like usual I took it out on the freeway for a quick spin. I was somewhat taken back to its actual response that the car gave when put my foot down. It felt like I was driving a six cylinder but the only thing giving away that it was a V8 was the distinct roaring sound that an eight normally produces. 255kw of power it didn't feel like that's for sure. But this is the first time I have driven one.

Have I got use to the turbo in my XR6T? because it was nothing like my XR6T. You can call me an amatuer to the performance car scene but what I want to know is that has anyone driven a VX R8 Clubby and how it compares to the XR6T?.

My opinion on the matter is that I think I have made the right decision to actually go with the XR6T. What do guys think?? without any predjudices to ford or holden.

By the way the XR6T is my first Ford- been a Expensive Daewoo guy prior to this.

Erm guys...it's called average torque output - forget kw's for one second, and let's look what a turbo do in reality - it's a torque multiplier, and a very effective one at that...

So, when you compare your average torque spread through your powerband, with a NA V8 of say 5.7L capacity, you should kill him.

No contest. Why - well, see it works like this - when you have a 4l engine, and you boost one bar pressure, in reality you have a 4l x 2 capacity engine = 8l NA equivalent.

In our case with stock XR6 T, you are boosting roughly 0.5bar, or 1/2 atmosphere, and in theory you have a 50% capacity increase, giving same displacement as a 6L NA V8 - but, only problem is, you have the same peak torque than the 6L V8 NA Engine, but much higher average torque.

That is why nothing NA in the same displacement range with same peak power levels can realistically compare with a turbo engine, with the same calculated displacement.

So, a 4l turbo engine, producing 400kw and 800nm torque, doing 1bar boost at the inlet, should produce same peak power than a NA 8L V8, so close to 400kw and 800nm torque, except average power levels on the 4l turboed engine should be higher.

I am talking no race-prepped 8L, just something like a std 454 big block, not exactly 8L, but close enough for a comparison.

Hope it makes sense. Then again, it may not.

Jesus! The things you learn on this site.

And to the original postee, I did the same thing jumped ship and left Holden. Ive never looked back except to see one in the rear view mirror dissapearing rapidly into the horizon behind.

yeh our cars are pretty quick hey but its easy to get used to them.. I went test driving cars with the mrs last night cause shes after a new one, took a brand new 2.5l WRX and a Mazda 6 MPS, both turboed and supposedly quick cars..

The WRX was a majoe letdown for me (1st one I'd ever driven) whereas the MPS although slower, felt faster cause of its in gear acceleration etc.. seemed more like the phoon with a nice surge around 2800-4000 but then tapers off somewhat

I was a Expensive Daewoo lover until on got my T still live holdens though would love to build a turbo Gen3. I used to think an SS was a fast car. Actually I though my Stock T felt really fast I flash it back to stock the other week and it felt like mums V6 vt commodore. Power is so easy to get used to leaving you wanting more.I guess that why communism never worked

I've driven my brothers GT-P and XR8 and compared to my XR6T, they felt slower in terms of acceleration and steering response. Having also driven a mates SS the same cept the Expensive Daewoo didn't give the wow factor I was hoping for. Also having driven a worked 03' STI felt awsome for acceleration and handling. But the T feels more stable and a better all rounder. I hear the MPS rides are getting better but still. The T in my view does a fantastic job. Having since heard the new VE winning car-of-the-year etc, I don't have much knowledge on the range but I'd imagine it's got some good all round qualities but I'm not sure about the performance factor. For the money we spend and mods to made for small bucks, the XR6T is almost everything you want in a car (my 2 cents worth anyway) :spit:

Although never I've been a passenger, or driven a VX Clubsport R8.

I had the honour of looking after a friends HSV VX GTS, (5.7ltr with the CB4 Callaway tuned 300KW LS1 Engines) I dont know what the Clubbie was like to drive but this thing :nono:

Credit where credit is due, without a single mod, this thing hauled :roflmbo: and I think it would of accounted for any stock XR6T.

The only thing letting that car down was the gearbox, seemed like the gearing and ratios were back to front, with a 6th gear you'd never ever use, unless doing 200kph :spit:
