Could be an overboost issue also. Right symptoms, and it is a MkI. But, not common in a stock car.

Disconnect the battery overnight. Reset the PCM.

Or even take it to Ford for a reflash with the latest code.

I will try with the traction off but it does it in a straight line and has only started to do it.the popping is like the engine is missing or something

Check your spark plugs. I had a similar popping/missing sound a while back and a change of plugs fixed it. My T is modified but I assume the same issue can occur with a stock car. Good luck!

Traction control I would say

Tyres ok or are they starting to wear

It was wet today as well

You would be breaking traction often today

Or it could be something else :bum:

I’ve got the same problem . I’ve changed plugs, coils, turbo, cat, manifold gasket ,fuel filter the fuel pump and injectors we’re supposed to be fine too . It runs really rich in fuel is all I’ve got . So a retune is next at a tuner.

Probably best to take it to an expert on these cars, then... It'll probably require a tune rather than mechanical fixes.
