I have mine on durung the day, even when cops drive past I do not get pulled over. Haven't had anyone beeping at me or high beaming me. The fogs are actually aimed towards the ground and I guess that is why I have not had any issues as yet. I see others with their lights on and it doesn't bother me.

At our meeting on the 18th alot of us had the foggies on and did not have any issues. But everybody has their own opinion.

I normally only use mine when the conditions require, such as fog and smoke. Although in the big wet in Sydney last week I had them on permanently (with the parkers only) simply to be seen.

Dont normally use them during the day (fordxr6turbo.com cruises excepted - it did look cool!)

Make sure you answer the poll truthfully ppl - I noticed that most of the XRs attending the Warragamba Cruise had their foggies on...no fog in sight.

The only reason i had my fog lights on was because it looked good with a whole heap of XR's in a row! other then that.. I seriously dont know why people would have the fog lights on during the day.. no idea..

You see a hell of alot of commodore drivers with them on..

I've got no problems with foggies when there are genuine visibility issues at stake, as it's only common sense to make sure you're seen. Just that IMO foggies are more susceptible to misalignment than regular headlights, and this is amplified on wet roads owing to the light beam being positioned closer to the surface of the road where it can reflect back upwards at eye level. It appears that a lot of these lights on other cars are more like low-mount flood lights than "real" foggies. Real foggies have a sharp cut-off at the top edge of the beam which helps to stop the light from spreading too far, and also penetrates fog better than a standard-spread lens.

The rear foggies can really be bright though when you've followed them for the last 10 kms, so these should definitely be saved for snowy/foggy conditions on the way to Mt Hotham........

You see a hell of alot of Late model camira drivers with them on..

Yes!

It seems to me every second Late model camira uses them during the day.

Maybe XR drivers are catching up as I have seen a few lately copying the SS boys.

I suspect it has got less to do with safety and more to do with "look at my car"

I wouldn't ride a bike on the road without lights because a lot of car drivers don't see bikes.

Only used my foggies once in 6 months when it was FOGGY!

I don't drive with them on during the day and rarely at night, but I don't care if other people do or not. Ive NEVER had anyones driving lights shine in my eyes. Aren't they supposed to be low light anyway, to keep the lines highlighted in thick fog? Should only effect oncoming go-kart drivers. I am interested to know what the law is though here in NSW, I've heard its illegal, but I don't know anybody that's been booked for it. Also, theres a big drive on the radio at the moment about having your headlights on during the day, 'be seen' kinda thing, so I don't see why having your driving lights on should get anyone in the s#*t.

My boss was done a couple of years ago. Got out of it by saying it was a new car and was unfamiliar with all the dials and knobs

I would only use them during the day if there was actually fog or a storm or something. Sometimes use them at night, mainly if there are no street lights and/or I am not familiar with the road I am driving on. Not fussed over whether others have them on or not, day or night.

I see a lot of Subaru Forester type 4WDs getting around with the foggies on and they are blinding because they are higher than normal passenger cars.

I had some female Mark Skaife wannabe in a red VY SS follow me for a few kms the other night with the foggies going full bore. They dazzled me so much I had to adjust my interior mirror and try not to look in my external one. We both ended up going to the same shopping centre, I was going to say something to her about the lights (turn the f*%$ers off!) but thought it was best not to in case it turned into a road rage situation.

It is definately illegal in NSW & WA to drive with fog lights on when there is no fog. Having said that in my experience NSW cops dont care, whereas WA ones will pull you over for a caution straight away.

I myself do alot of country driving and use foglights and high beams at night, just to be able to see more than a few meters ahead - standard lights are not that good.

During the day I don't care if people have fog or regular lights on, but even on a clear day driving with no lights is dangerous as many cars do blend in and can easily be missed when looking for oncomming traffic prior to overtaking. I prefer to use fog lamps for this, but definately not when the road is wet as the glare off the road is terrible.

Of course being so large and low, within 2 days a stone had cracked one of them.

Illegal in NSW to use fog lights during day or night if there is no fog around.

Yet is OK to use standard low beams during the day for visability.

This is legislated in NSW.

Presently being enforced in Hunter Valley NSW over the past 2 weeks. From my work (70 employees) 2x SS Bombadores, 1x WRX & 3x Forresters have been booked. $87 fine, no loss of points. In the WRX's booking the copper stated that they were now going to crack down on the offence as the practice was becoming too common with the increased number of vehicles sporting fog lights.

My Opinion: On a flat stretch of road & oncoming/following vehicles......fog lights DO dazzel, low beams do not. I maintain that opinion whether I'm driving my Blueprint XR6T, my Prado with it's 2" lift, or my 1956 Ford ute lowered 2". Day or night, dawn or dusk. Oncoming vehicles with fog lights on, be they new XR's, SS's, WRX's, ricers, etc DO DAZZEL.

If the reason for using them when there isn't any fog is to increase your visibility for safety reasons, then instead of turning on the foggies, just turn on your low beams! The added benefit is they are higher off the road & will be seen earlier when you crest a hill or come up out of a dip, and a better chance of being seen when you are following other traffic.....all without dazzelling oncoming or followed vehicles. Just my opinion....

Cheers,

Marc...
