Ken

As the "lights-on" feature is a dealer fitted accessory at $140.00, I assume it can be fitted at any time.

Some time ago, I saw a post from someone who was going to get it removed as it caused the sat-nav screen to go to the night setting. But if you don't hve sat nav, that's not an issue as it doesn't affect the normal or premiun ICC screens.

Thanks Zeke, I'll call my dealer on Monday ... I'm sure they'd love to hear from me again.

a few years ago the government passed a legislation that all new motorcycles sold had to have the head lights hard wired(so they came on with the ignition

this was a knee jerk reaction by some politicians and testing and statistics later showed headlights on in the day did nothing to reduce the amount of bike accidents.

As far as I aware it is no longer mandatory to have them on

rainy - yep, those statistics are a killer. One of my math teachers once told me that the exact same set of stats can be used to prove or disprove anything you want. Pollies and beaurocrats rely on this - but ask yourself this: "Can I see a rider or a car from a greater distance if the lights are on or off?" ... and then this: "Am I more likely to see a rider or a car at my first glance in it's direction if the lights are on or off?"

Forget statistics and go with what you KNOW.

Zeke and Ken, you can do it for a lot less than $140. All you need is a mini toggle switch, a fused relay, and a bit of 4mm cable - you can wire through your accessory feed so that the lights will operate basically the same as the Ford lights-on feature and your park/tail lights and instrument lights will not be activated - the ICC will not dim.

About 1 hour of your time even if you're completely new to doing anything electrical and cost of parts less than $30.

Anybody wants more info by email PM me ...

Jeff.

Bump.

Sorry to mine the old foglight thread, but I was just reading the HSV VY2 release and came across this:

Cutting edge High Intensity Discharge (HID) driving lamps will become an option on HSV models shortly after start of production. Rather than fog lights ‘HSV Xenon Performance Lamps’ are genuine driving lamps, emitting a brilliant beam of white light that offers a greater safety margin during night driving.

Now that's something I think we could do without. The Holden/HSV range has very bright foglights to begin with, and they are making them brighter?Or am I not understanding, and they are genuine driving lights, which only come on with the high beams.

Either way, its about time that we saw the HID technology introduced as main headlights into local cars. It will eventually trickle down to the mainstream where we can benefit, with cleaner light than our normal headlights.

They will only be used with high beam - however the placement of them in the low position where the fog lights normally go will waste all the HID technology - driving lights to be effective need to be as close to eye level as possible.

Havn't read this thread till now cause I thought it looked like a waste of time and still think that.

I have seen alot of cars with driving/fog lights being used during the day and night and they dont bother or affect me at all. I think they makle the car using them more visible and this can't be a bad thing. Those that feel a majority of these lights dazzle them need to clean their windscreen, in my opinion the majority don't dazzzzzle. I use them always at night and sometimes during the day and have never had a complaint.

Just my 2 cents worth.

I drive with mine on at night and when I put my parkers on at dusk. I have not been high beemed once, which must mean that they aren't bright or are aligned correctly. My mate who has an SS get high beemed 5-6 times a night driving with his on (short trips).

I hate driving in the opposite direction to someone with the foggies on, if they shine in your eyes (like commodores & HSV's), but obviously my XR don't have the same effect, if it did I would turn them off.

I agree with both geea and chief.

Only time fog lights have ever dazzled me is if I look directly at them. Of course any lights dazzle you if you look directly at them. So I would say if you're being dazzled by fog lights, stop looking at the fog lights and look down the road where you are going!
