OK heres my 2c worth. The fog lights fitted to your car are not to improve your visibility in foggy conditions. They are so OTHER cars can see your car - that's why some cars also have a fog light on the rear. (ie hyundai excel )

They are situated low to the ground so the light doesnt reflect off the fog and reduce the dirvers visibility. ie visibility is REDUCED when u use your highbeams in fog.

The fact that someone said earlier in this thread that they are useless in fog is a bit of an incorrect statement.

Ross

You seem to be contradicting yourself a bit there ...

Anyhow, it's been done to death - Marc is pretty spot on with his commments and observations.

Cro> The NSW HWP are directed to NEVER use their fog lights, at least that's what I've been told by a local occifer - plonky might like to verify or wipe this claim for us.

I know people who have been booked and I was warned once - a couple of years ago in my RS2000. I had come through rain at night on a long journey and had inadvertently left them on ... lucky for me the cop was understanding.

If you want to be seen headlights are the go - fog lights at any time other than in poor weather are just a "look at me" ricer attitude which I find immature, esp with such a great ride as an XR6T.

Turbo6man, you are sooooo right. We actually haven't been directed not to leave the foglights off, but if one of us is 'rice' enough to put the foglights on, I'm sure that everyone in the office will take the Pee One Double Ess out of them!!

Fog lights are such a wank, I never use them and I work in an area which snows!

Would you "book" someone for having them on?

Same story in WA.......Inclement weather only or you can get booked, we don't get a lot of fog here in 'God's Country' :D

I must admit when I first got my beloved 'hawk' I used to have them on, novelty factor, but now don't use them and am getting annoyed with people who do have them on, clear starlit night and there's 'Tojo' in his Rising Sun kamakazi 'long grainer', lit up like a flying extra from Close Encounters of the Third Kind :tosser:

Jeeesus! Every forum in Australia has discussed this crap!

Facts:

They are illegal in most states unless it is foggy (most states don't experience fog)

They do NOT increase your "close-up vision" (they actually decrease your long distance accuity)

They don't look "cool""

They ARE glary (by design they have a WIDE flat beam- hence glare)

People using fog-lights have small willys and low self esteem!!

Turn 'em off - leave it to the Late model camira SS drivers

CFlat
