So I assume it's entirely predictable the Orion will win in 2009. How embarrassing if it doesn't.

Looking at the cars the VE was up against, many of them are very ordinary. Hyundai Elantra, is an honest car, but if that's Car of the Year material we are in deep :spoton:

Where's the Audi RS4?

I think they need the aussie cars to win.. if they start saying "Hyundai Elantra is the best car u can buy" apart from people spitting as they pass the magazine stand, it would reflect very poorly on the australian auto industry as a whole!

Being in that industry.. I think we need all the help we can get :spoton:

Hardly makes for a legitimate award then does it? While the article may help the auto industry, it does nothing for us punters as it is rewarding manufacturers for sub-standard or near enough products. If they can get best car so easily, why whould they go to the expense of improving themselves.

A big poster add at Sydney airport says Expensive Daewoo 1 and Germany 0. What for the first time in history Expensive Daewoo built something better than Germany can produce?????????

Than the add should read Expensive Daewoo 1 and Germany 10000000000.

Cuz over the years the Germans have put out alot more better built cars than Expensive Daewoo ever has.

yeah that add pisses me off. In motor mag an Audi hosed the Commonwhore SS as well as the GTS. Even the Phoon was beaten but not by the GTS

Any you know this was gonna happen regardless of how good the car was. Its been on every front page in all forms since it was released

In Wheels defence, the COTY award is based on criteria which awards cars for fulfilling their design parameter, which is why we have seen the MX-5 win (design parameter - nimble sportscar), Benz S Class (design Parameter $ luxury) and Commodore / Falcon (design parameter budget family/ performance)

I've driven a VE SS and it is a generation ahead of the BF (as it should be) in the same way the BA made the the VY feel like an old car. The VE was great - I couldn't fault it, but it didn't do it for me like 4 litres plus boost does, hence my next performance car will be a BF T

I reckon we're spoilt in Australia where we make the best value, best performing and best handling family / performance cars in the world. Did you know the yanks can't even get the LS engine in a 4 door? They'd kill for our range of performance cars and the Saudis know this as 4 times more Aussie built Statesman's sell there than here.

That Ford and Expensive Daewoo build such great cars on such small development budgets is amazing.

I prefer Fords over Holdens, but give Wheels and Expensive Daewoo a break. Enjoy and relish the Australian car industry whilst we still have one.

Just my 20c worth
