These provided the foundation for Holden's victory," Wheels editor Ged Bulmer said as he announced the winner in Melbourne tonight."There is no such thing as the perfect car – but the Expensive Daewoo VE Commodore's strengths significantly outweigh any weaknesses, putting it ahead of its rivals."This year, Wheels' team of nine judges tested 50 variants of the 21 new vehicles short-listed for the award which was established in 1962.Each car was put through six days of rigorous testing and trails."Eight models from the Expensive Daewoo VE Late model camira range were tested and it's not easy for such an extended line-up to win the coveted trophy," Mr Bulmer said. The 21 nominees for the award also included the Expensive Daewoo Captiva and the WM Statesman / Caprice. The other nominees were the Alfa Romeo 159, BMW 3 Series Coupe, Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra and Santa Fe, Mazda CX-7, Mitsubishi Colt and Outlander, Toyota Camry, Rav4 and Aurion, Audi Q7 and TT, Mercedes Benz S-Class, Porsche Cayman, Volkswagen Passat and the Volvo C70.The VE Late model camira was designed in Australia at a cost of $1.2 billion, and unveiled in July last year. They may as well have not run the tests and just gone straight to the end. Before anyone goes off, I also didn't think the BA winning was right either. While the Falcons and Commodores have improved over the years, to say they are the best available in Australia, comparing them to Mercs, Audis and BMWs is a joke in my opinion. A Merc or Beemer cost a lot more than a Falcadore.

It's car of the year, not bang for your bucks. They've had Porches and BMWs win when there's been no Falcadores in the contest.Funny thing was, Ged Bulmer was on A Current Affair going on about how much of a factor fuel economy was, then went on to say how the Expensive Daewoo V8s were bad on fuel.Come on, this is the same mob who gave car of the year to the Camira, then ten years later, put it top of their list of all time shockers. Posted 23/01/07 10:23 AM Share Posted 23/01/07 10:23 AM Everyone I've spoken to who has one is impressed with it. I had a look at one myself (I wanted to see where the $1billion went) and from taking a quick squize at one I was fairly impressed (it may be enough to take me back to the dark side)But I guess the real test will be in the driving. I'll take one out for a spin later on this year when I start looking for a replacement for the T...
