Depreciation Xr6t V Ghia

I purchased a XR6T MkII with the lux pac Nov 04' with other options $55k on road, now I'd be luke to get $35k for it, I figure at the 3 year mark it would only be worth 50% original value if I'm lucky.

Options on cars never helps the resale value.  :fool:

That said, the XR6T with the lux pac is the great setup.

50% depreciation at 3 years is about normal for cars.

If you are lucky and have a desirable model, then say 50% at 4 years.

If you are unlucky it could be a lot worse. AFAIK the fastest depreciating cars are at the high end of the BMW 7 series. The bigger and more complex the engine the faster the rate of depreciation. Try something like 70% depreciation in two years on a private sale.

The XRT's resale 'book' values are affected by the fact that the figures are averages that include the prices paid for ex police chasers, modified vehicles and normal XRT's that have been thoroughly thrashed.

Options do help resale values but remember the options depreciate along with the rest of the car. For some models, particularly collector type models, some options become highly sought after and significantly increase the value of the car on the second hand market. Hi Po brakes, Hi Po engines, handling options, leather cabins... - depending on the specific make and model can all become highly desirable.

Regards,

aa

I think the Ghia will not have as bad resale. The $46,000 means you and me can now buy the ghia are prices that are near previously only for the big national fleets.

Ghia gets memory seat, 8 way power, auto dip rear mirror, nicer leather with optional china beige, black chrome dash with chrome dials, optional V8, boot liner, lots of chrome inside and out. You get XR suspension + 10 mm. FPV steering wheel etc. They also get other fairlane bits like chrome bits on the aircon vents etc. Over a regular XR6t they get stuff like dual zone climate, premium audio, power peddles, side bags, parking sensors etc.

Options are rarely pay their way in resale (except aircon).

Definately go sit in a new ghia. They are pretty sweet inside. The new dash looks really nice IMHO. The new leather also makes things a bit classier. Its a simular cut/colour to what was on the fairlanes.

It might all sound academic in the forum, but sitting in them/driving back to back will make your mind up pretty quick. Ghia has it all over the XR for luxuries. And the BFII Ghia looks horn and new. While the BFII XR6 looks very 2002.

Im going hunting for a 2005 BF Ghia in the next few weeks.

BF II 2006 plated Fairmont Ghia's are being run out for under $42k. You can probably do better haggling hard.

I drove a ba 3v ghia right before the T one of the hardest decisions I've had to make, T was $2000 cheaper.

only reason I chose it was coz they are so damn easy to get big power out of

Bought my T when it was 6 moths old which was fully optioned plus after market options as well except for the steering wheel upgrade. New price would have set me back over $50k but I only paid $43000 driveaway. Basically, I got all the options for free and no dealer delivery.

It would be worth now around $25k. that's only 42% depreciation. You may not always get (exactly) what you want. In my case I did.

Cheers

PS. Sorry if I hijacked the thread....just throwing in the alternative.

Yeah that dep'n sounds about right to me. XR's out of the Ford family usually are one of the best models when it comes to a depcreciation percentage.

However when comparing the two cars I would say that they are quite different beasts and it just depends on what you want?

I like the Force 6 idea that was mentioned before by Chooka - best of both worlds!

I have just bought a BA MK2 XR6 turbo 6 speed, built June05 with 63000ks for $24000. Velocity blue, 18" wheels, premium sound, and the colour matched interior. not a scratch or mark on the car, interiors perfect.

What would the car have sold for new?
