At the time I bought my T, 3 years ago I considered purchasing a Fairmaon Ghia. This was just before the luxury pack came out in April 2004.

I looked at the depreciation figures then and they still come out the same. I know we all know the Ghia would depreciate quicker but here are figures from Red Book.

XR6T New $46125, now Private sale $26700, still worth 57.9% of new price.

Ghia New $51255, now private cale $23400, still worth 45.7% of new price.

The reason I looked again at these figures is that Im in the market again and considered the Ghia against an XR6T as the two have the same starting price now. But again the depreciation will turn me off the Ghia if past figures are to go by.

The XR6T with luxury pack is also the other option but that makes it quite a bit more than the Ghia.

Decissions, Decissions??????

Almost....but almost as good as. Different ride though if you're after a more sedate family car.

Interesting stats - I'd have thought the T would be the fastest depreciating vehicle known to man!

edit: mords wuddled

It was when I sold mine.

that's one of the reasons I gat a Spazda for an interim vehicle.

So, what do Mazda do 6 months after I buy?

Yep, knock about $2500 off the new price......

:fool: sometimes ya just cant win :gooff:

I purchased a XR6T MkII with the lux pac Nov 04' with other options $55k on road, now I'd be luke to get $35k for it, I figure at the 3 year mark it would only be worth 50% original value if I'm lucky.

Options on cars never helps the resale value. :gooff:

That said, the XR6T with the lux pac is the great setup.

I would only take Redbook figures with a grain of salt. A car is only worth what you can sell them for or whatever someone is prepared to pay.

I would think a XR6T might depreciate more - in real life, not Redbook life - because there are heaps around. The old supply and demand law.

Fairmont Ghias are a bit thinner on the ground so in theory could be worth a bit more because of their exclusivity. Could be a double edged sword though, not as many people possibly in the market for a used Fairmont Ghia.

At the end of the day both cars are going to depreciate a fair bit from their new price, just try and ignore that and buy the car you enjoy driving the most.

Probably right. I just paid $36k for a Nov '05 BF Series 1 with 6sp Auto and Luxury pack from a dealer! 20,000kms

I think the XR6 Turbo would be easier to sell as well as there are more people wanting to buy them rather than a ghia or for that matter pretty much any model.

I had no problems selling my XR6 Turbo but had great difficulty even getting interest in my GT.
