Hi all,

I'm a newish member of 5 months or so now since I took delivery of my BF Bionic in August.

What a car eh? I would never have believed you could break traction going up hill (!!) in a rear wheel drive, by burying your foot to overtake at 50kph...

Anyway, back to the topic... I have the 15k service due probably late next month, and my boss (who has a BA2 XR6T) tells me he noticed a huge diffence after the local Ford dealer waived his wand over his car at 15k's.

Are these detuned to any extent for the run-in period?

And what should I tell the local (overcharging) Ford dealer to do and check on apart from the textbook manual 15k service requirements?

Appreciate your advice on this.

Cheers!

There are a number of things ford do at service time, some of which could include a re-flash of the PCM. Most likely what he has noticed is simply a good service. When you get new oil and filter and everything else looked at you are bound to notice an improvement. They don't detune new cars though.

I wouldnt pay more than 140 for a full service. If you supply your own oil and filter it shouldnt cost more than 100.

dont bother taking it there after the 15k service.. They charge way too much.

Do you live in sydney.. If so I can organise a bloke to service your car for a lot less than what ford do

I'm on the other side of the Tasman, local dealer is John Andrew Ford here in Auckland.

They are total rip off artists, stung me for a $1800 service a couple of years ago on my AU XR6 I had at the time.... (don't ask, I've buried that experience)

This one is a company car, hence needs to go back to the dealer. They pay anyway, so this time round I don't care if they overcharge....

Why do they detune? Is it so we tenderly run the car in? ah ha ha ha

Just to give it a better run in I gather, I know mums fairmont was a slug untill the 30K service then after that it was markedly quicker and better on fuel

I think the run-in tune myth has been disproved several times though.

The only instance where a de-tune may have happened was the overboost fix for the early model BA's - but even then everyone had mixed results (I thought mine came out much better)
